What's new

11 flights cancelled due to PIA, PALPA tiff

It actually started before Zia....it started with the ignorance of Bhutto and his politics.....that matched the acumen of a Jahil at best.
Yes bhutto had a hand in breakup of Pakistan b/c of his policies BUT it was Zia who really ruined Pakistan by satisfying Americans & Al-saud interests just to remain in power.

@ACE OF THE AIR - why are you comparing the salaries of USA and European countries to PIA pilots? The US Air pilot has to own a house in the USA and pay for it (as for all his domestic expenses) in the USA. Aren't Pakistani living costs much cheaper in comparison?

I know Mumbai & New York. To get to the airport I will pay $50 to $100+ in New York. In Mumbai I'll pay RS.300 to Rs.1500 depending where from. So can the cabbie in Mumbai demand $50 to $100 (which will make it INRs.4000 to INRs.6500 !!!
The problem is these pilots fly off to US and Europe and live there for number of days. they have to be paid accordingly. It is not living in Pakistan or India where they spend on an average 4-6 days but where they spend most of the time.

Can you live in the US or Europe on the salary you earn in Pakistan or India, give the taxi in US RS 300 and tell him to drive to the airport? No...

To own a house in Pakistan is much more complicated and difficult than that in the US or European countries. In the West one can easily take up a mortgage but in Pakistan one has to have the entire amount in cash. Though there are other ways too like easy installment on new property but that has to be flats or land but that too at the end you have to pay a lumsum amount. During the time it take to complete a project one has to live on rent which is really very high.

I know Bombay properties cost lot more than what it costs in Pakistan but still it is global issue. A few days back I was comparing the price of a 4 bed house in Istanbul and a 4 bed house in Karachi and came to know that there cost is identical.

A 4 bed house in London suburbs also costs the same as Karachi, the only difference is that it seems too high due to the high inflation rate.

Hotel expense is paid by the airline. They don't ever have to spend anything from their own pocket.

Being a pilot is naturally a stuck-up career. And these pilots get really pissed when they realize their friends from other trades have made so much more money than they have...

These pilots are parasites, living off of a bigger parasite (PIA).

The hotel only offers breakfast a person eats at-least 2 time in a day (24hrs). They have to pay for it so they are going to spend money in a Five Star or a 4 Star Hotel.

You can not win this fight as this is ultimately going to cause a gap in the airline pilots experience which in turn would discourage travelers amounting to higher loses. With the experience gone and taking 10 years minimum for a replacement would cost far more than what the pilots are asking for.

I have flown in a lot of aircrafts, from Buffalo's, C-130's, CN-235, C-17, to various civilian aircraft. One way of judging a good pilot, is by the way he lands.

My opinion of PIA pilots is that most of them make exceptionally smooth landings, surprisingly. Not once, but on many occasions, I had to look out of the window to see IF we had landed. It was that smooth.

You are most welcome to visit mine...

Did you know the products are available in the market...visit Sadar and you can buy every thing.
I do have some cutlery of Swiss Air as the used to sell it as a way to advertise the brand. PIA is a company in its own right and they can sell their products be it as souvenirs or a brand.

I seriously doubt it, by the quality of the crockery and cutlery, that it was bought.

So what's your address?? Just kidding, I'll take your word for it. There is a reason why I tag you when it comes to domestic civil aviation .

I don't think you've ever met any of PIA pilots. They have $hit skills. No english communication skills, no nothing (They often have trouble communicating with towers abroad). Can't compare it to foreign pilots. Also, those stats you posted, they're incorrect. There is currently over supply of pilots in USA, Canada etc. Their salaries are much lower. PIA pilots should be paid market rate, no more, no less. I think they are being paid a reasonable amount considering the fact that there's pilots in pakistan willing to take these very jobs very happily at these salaries.

PIA should be privatized or even better, liquidated. That will solve all problems.

No there are no problems in the free market. Except for those who are stupid and lazy...

Please do provide valid sources.

Thanks

So if PALPA have their way will SAEP follow suit ?

Well Pak was Islamic Republic by name only until Zia came in power with his extreme version of Islam sponsored by Al-Sauds during Afghan Jihad..
There is a thread where I discussed how we fell in this shit with time line which started from Bhutto ...Zia was just a scapegoat following what the constitution already had decided!

Why blame Zia for every ill in Pakistan? – The Express Tribune Blog

Kindly read in chronological order instead of listening to slaves of PPP trying to hide the truth! People can lie but the order in which things happened dont!

When pilots and crew are abroad they are housed, transported, and entertained by the company, and you know that. PLUS they are paid additional if for some reason they are stuck an extra day in some location due to weather or craft issue. It is therefore very fallacious to compare their salaries with that of foreign pilots.

Do you know what is the international salary of a pilot?
That is not a good comparison. It is like I say if the minimum wage for a worker is £6.7 per hour in UK then I should get the same in Pakistan....

It actually started before Zia....it started with the ignorance of Bhutto and his politics.....that matched the acumen of a Jahil at best.
Thank you for this. Couldn't agree more.

Yes agree. I have travelled many times in PIA and the best landings were by them. Emirates, Qatar and others are good but PIA were the smoothest.

This is called hypocrisy, and it is found everywhere in the world regardless of religion or money.

Pakistan was an Islamic Republic in 1960s and 70s...PIA was fine then....so what happened now?

When you don't have checks and balances, no amount of religion will correct that deficiency.

PIA was one of the finest airlines back then. The times of Bhutto and Zia eroded the foundations, and the whole edifice crumbled into its present sorry state in the subsequent free-for-all, especially in the Zardari era, continuing into the present. I am sure you remember the very interesting incident with PIA, a politician and a certain Mr. Arjumand Hussain. One can write a thesis about the root causes of that episode in the context of the topic of this thread.

Bhutto ruined the entire corporate sector.
