Satellite Images Reveal Show Of Force By Chinese Navy In South China Sea

Wasnt the name changed to Chinese navy? I am confused because people still refer to them as plan.

Over 80% of Chinese doctorate students in US intend to stay in US after graduation

I absolutely do. But, do you know that most Chinese students prefer to do their PhD abroad in a good university? China's cream of the crop goes abroad for a PhD. Do an experiment, and check the background of all of China's most prolific researchers. Almost all of them have their PhD abroad.

China’s home-built C919 jet receives 815 orders from home and abroad

No dude. I know very little about aviation in general, so I am very low on expertise. I am just trying to judge what the technological scenario will be from the data available to me. Now, I think the chief designer of C919 is surely infinitely more skilled than me, but don't you agree he is a...

Over 80% of Chinese doctorate students in US intend to stay in US after graduation

@TaiShang I have posted this specially for you, since you were the one who posted the rising number of Chinese returnees. But the real picture is complex. Today, a lot of Chinese students abroad are going at a much younger age, and are funding themselves. Earlier only the very cream of the...

The Bollywood movie that’s beaten Star Wars at China’s box office

There are some old Hong Kong movies I have watched, and some Chinese ones as well, but all are over the Internet. I have theatres all around me, but can't recall any Chinese movie being released in India. (Except for Kungfu Yoga, which as the previous person said failed.)

The Bollywood movie that’s beaten Star Wars at China’s box office

Very few. I can't recall any infact. In India, Hollywood and Bollywood rule. And our market is actually very open. There are no limits on foreign films etc.

Over 80% of Chinese doctorate students in US intend to stay in US after graduation

The link to the stat is here: https://www.nsf.gov/statistics/2018/nsf18304/data/tab53.pdf @TaiShang This is the stat that is most important because these days many Chinese students who go abroad are able to do so simply because they can afford to do so. But real researchers still...

China’s home-built C919 jet receives 815 orders from home and abroad

I agree. China seems to be the first country to actually have a credible chance at challenging the Aviation duopoly. Not only that, a good civil aviation industry is highly required for a good functional MIC, and the national defense as well, because in aviation everything is dual use.

China’s home-built C919 jet receives 815 orders from home and abroad

True, that is why I am always skeptical of any thing wildly raised in such a way. HSR is a totally different beast. HSR is far more easy to develop, build than a proper aviation industry. No, money is not all that matters. Otherwise, countries in Saudi Arabia would also be making parts for the...

The Bollywood movie that’s beaten Star Wars at China’s box office

http://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/2130974/bollywood-movie-thats-beaten-star-wars-chinas-box-office Indian movies are doing really well at Chinese box Office. There are very few Indian movies released in China in the first place, and all are doing tremendous business as of now...

China’s home-built C919 jet receives 815 orders from home and abroad

I read recently in multiple western newspapers that C 919 is a decade behind the latest technology in aviation, and would actually be more expensive to operate than the most recent Boeing and Airbus variants. Is that true?

China to launch first commercial recoverable satellite by 2020

It is for stuff that requires retrieval of material sent in space. For example, in a space biology experiment, you have to retrieve whatever you have sent up in space, because proper biological evaluation can't be done while in space.

China’s BOE to spend big on display panels with state backing

Indian economy is indeed growing fast now, but will it surpass China's economy? I think that is said only by very nationalist commentators. Most people understand that it can't be predicted, and will anyways be very hard to accomplish. Well, yes some Indians would claim that India is where...

The west is doing its best to help China

I am not debating here about Hard Power vs Soft Power. Hard Power is ultimately the most important Power, no doubt about that. I am saying that one needs both Hard Power and Soft Power. In fact I would characterize it in three parts, one is hard power, the other soft power, and the other...

China’s BOE to spend big on display panels with state backing

I will reserve my judgement on memory. NOR Flash is the most likely one that China will come through on. The biggest surprise is actually AMEC. It is the first Chinese company in semiconductor equipment that has managed to make competitive products (here, MOCVDs). That is incredible indeed.

BOE has indeed become very competitive.

The west is doing its best to help China

I used to believe like you in the realpolitik and realist school of foreign policy. And those schools are still perhaps the single most important ones. But we humans, are by and large, NOT completely rational creatures. We have emotions, ego, feelings, ideology, religion, and the confluence...
