This is the stat that is most important because these days many Chinese students who go abroad are able to do so simply because they can afford to do so.
But real researchers still overwhelmingly prefer the US. But things are still changing from before. But much needs to be done. And China should not grow complacent over the statistics, that say 80% or more of the students abroad return.
In fact according to the bloomberg article cited below, there are more Chinese researchers in US tech companies working on AI, than there are total Chinese researchers!
