Zero tolerance for human rights violations in Kashmir: Army

..Srinagar, May 16 (PTI) Calling for ''Zero Tolerance'' regarding human rights'' violations, a senior Army commander today said power does not flow from the barrel of the gun but by upholding the dignity of people and respecting their sentiments.

"Power does not come from the muzzle of the gun, but by upholding the dignity of the people and respecting their sentiments," General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps Lt General S A Hasnain said at a seminar on human rights here.

Lt Gen Hasnain also said Army would try to win over hearts and use that as its main weapon in combating insurgency in Kashmir.

Chief of Army�s Northern Command Lt General K T Parnaik in his address commended the track record of Indian Army in upholding human rights despite challenges.

He stressed on the use of ''minimum force and acting in good faith.''

Spread over two sessions, several personalities including former Army Generals, High Court Judges, Vice Chancellors, journalists and writers took part in the seminar. PTI MIJ TA

yes kashmir belongs to kashmiris, who is denying that??????? same like punjab for punjabis, bengal for bengalis, tamil nadu for tamilians etc etc. kashmiris need not to go anywhere.

I really hate Indian counter insurgency forces they are quite cruel especially in NE india due to AFSPA where illiterate soldiers act like goons and force people to bribe them or they kill or rape them its just disgusting but most people ignore their plea and it sometimes just shows how ignorant people have become with their newly found wealth. News agencies does not even focus on those things its shamefull to be honest google it its ll over the net and its really sad

If a DNA registry was created for the armed forces, perhaps it would be easier to find the bad eggs. For example, if someone accuses the army of rape, get a sample of DNA and put it through the database, find the criminal, and make them pay.

I cant stand people who being dishonour to the uniform.

Very good to know this. Kashmir has definitely calmed down a lot in the last 3 to 4 years and is on the right track towards positive development. If only some development can be done in Kashmir like the rest of India, I am sure the separatists (who are a minority in Kashmir to begin with) would stop looking for an independent Kashmir. That being said, its hard to attract investment, build education systems and create job opportunities in Kashmir if there is a cycle of violence and terrorism as there was in the early 1990s. Though I think in the last 5 years this has been rapidly changing and Jammu and Kashmir seems to be going in the right direction.

nahi mante. kashmiris in india enjoy better freedom than kashmiris in ***. dw we take good care of them. our army is doing the right thing in kashmir and trying to restore peace. these rapists should be punished.

Oh please every Indian knows that...

If the Kashmiri Muslims don't feel comfortable living under our flag they can aanytime pack their bags and move over to Pakistan or wherever they find solace. Tha land stays with us.

And same for Pakistan..they care two hoots for the Kashmiri muslims..they want the land as its a ego issue and also for water sources.
