..Srinagar, May 16 (PTI) Calling for ''Zero Tolerance'' regarding human rights'' violations, a senior Army commander today said power does not flow from the barrel of the gun but by upholding the dignity of people and respecting their sentiments.
"Power does not come from the muzzle of the gun, but by upholding the dignity of the people and respecting their sentiments," General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps Lt General S A Hasnain said at a seminar on human rights here.
Lt Gen Hasnain also said Army would try to win over hearts and use that as its main weapon in combating insurgency in Kashmir.
Chief of Army�s Northern Command Lt General K T Parnaik in his address commended the track record of Indian Army in upholding human rights despite challenges.
He stressed on the use of ''minimum force and acting in good faith.''
Spread over two sessions, several personalities including former Army Generals, High Court Judges, Vice Chancellors, journalists and writers took part in the seminar. PTI MIJ TA
