Another temple with unbelievable sculptural details: Temples of Belur and Halebed in Karnataka.

I like old temples with bit of history attached to it.

In modern temple I like Swaminarayan Sanstha's temples (same people who made Akshardham, Neasden)

And apparently, now they have convinced Chinese (communist who think religion is poison) to make another temple in China. They have a temples in 6 continents.

Wow 600+ crore for a temple, not sure God is that luxurious, I'm pretty sure he/she/they would prefer if the money was spent on building schools in villages, just saying.

Definitely but then again we could also not have armed forces and spend that money on schools?

People didn't say a word when they were making a biggest mosque in Asia in Kerala. But now everyone wants to use the temple money for society upliftment because it's a Hindu temple. If you don't want there to be a temple, just don't donate. :)

I would say the same thing about the mosque in Kerala. Armed Forces is something we need considering our neighbourhood, we would die or get invaded without it. Not so much need to a 660 crore temple.

Stupid comparison.

I would say the same thing if they decide to spend 600 crore on a mosque as well. As a society we need to get our priorities right.

Exactly!

They are not asking for government to make a temple? If they have money, they'll build it. By the way if you want schools, there are so many scopes where government can cut funding and use it for education. I personally believe, we don't have enough schools/colleges but not making a temple isn't gonna solve any of these issues?

I mean if you really care, then why don't you travel to some village and try and teach children and make them literate? Why don't you pay some sincere, hard working childrens' fees so they don't have to quit school despite of being clever? Are you doing your bit for the society? It's easier to critisize everything. :)

I have seen Angkor Wat and its simply surreal. There is simply no way anything will come close to creating that feeling of awe regardless of the scale of any new temple. The temples around Angkor simply add to the feeling of awe. History cannot be added to any new structure, that is what makes Angkor special. It's what makes the Taj Mahal special.

Interesting compound to the entrance of the city -on one side are the Devas & on the other are the Asuras doing the churning of the ocean. Vasuki; the king of the serpents forms the backbone of the compound. The use of the serpent body as compound is standard across Angkor Wat.

A scene from the Mahabharata. One side of the Angkor Wat tells the story of the Mahabharata while the other tells of the Ramayana. while the Ramayana is an integral part of Khmer society, the Mahabharata is not remembered at all.
