With the discussion of Sindh being divided, I was wondering about Punjab

Should Punjab be divided into separate provinces?

It's no secret that Punjab is not only the richest and most populous province in Pakistan, but also holds the most sway in deciding each successive federal government. It's said that the party to dominate Punjab politically will rule Pakistan, and while not always the case (2008 being a prime example), there is no denying that Punjab has a the biggest say in deciding which party will next be in charge.

My question is simple, in order to make it politically fair to other provinces, and level the playing field, should Punjab be divided?

Yes, Punjab should be divided in Administrative units. It should remain Punjab, just with different administrative sections without any religious/sectarian or racial division. There are many, many reasons to favour this.

Yep, more provinces makes administration better and easier, humara haan toh log samaajte hain ghadar mulk tor raha hai :D

Why don't they divide the 4 provinces into 8 simultaneously?

Then again, I think Pakistan should wait until killer Altaf Hussain dies first so his party of murderous scumbags cannot take advantage of any unforeseen situation that may arise.

Yesterday you were opposing Karachi as a separate province and now today you want to break Punjab to make new provinces. What is this double standard?

Karachi is a city that MQM want to split off on the basis of ethnicity, which is sectarian in nature . I don't oppose, nor have I ever opposed Karachi getting a special status in Pakistan, as it is a huge money maker; I've also been supportive of doing the same with Gwadar (once it is built). They shouldn't be separate provinces, rather they should be considered special economic zones. With Punjab, the motivation is more to do with politics than economics, so no, it is not a double standard. There is no denying that Punjab holds too much power when it comes to politics, simply because as a province, it has the largest population, which means it gets the largest chunk of federal funding; not to mention that Punjab is also the richest.

Why do I think Punjab should be split into multiple provinces? So that other provinces can level the playing field politically to compete with Punjab as a whole.

Like I said, this isn't a double standard, it is simple logic; To suggest otherwise is simply ignorant.

The reason for Pakistan is this economical mess today with no development happening for last two decades is that we only have four center of powers, Pakistan should have at least 20 provinces with 20 provincial capitals which will start development in 20 cities. But due to lack of education and narrow mindedness of people our politician use them to keep maximum power in thair hands, why would PPP allow to divide Sind when they can enjoy the bounties of Karachi without even winning a single seat in Karachi, Karachi is where all the political power is generated, used and abused. Then you see the hypacricy of MQM "koi Mai ka lal sind to divide nehe ker sakta" what a stupid dumb and totally absurd statement coming from MQM leadership. Why not go out in the open and say you want Sind divided. someone should ask the brain dead politician and people of sind what happened if provinces are divided, does govt put a wall on the boundaries and you cant cross on to other sides. What happens in the border areas of Punjab and Sind, do they ever notice the boundary lines and say i wont marry my daughter acros the provincial boundary.

I dont know maybe I am too sensitive to stupidity but I cannot handle this everyday stupidities I see in the country. The world is moving forward and people in Pakistan and their backward mentality are stuck with their 15th century ancestors. I said it before and I will say it again, we got screwed in partition and got only brain dead areas.

Pakistan is a larger country than Turkiye for example and yet Turkiye has 80 provinces! Well managed at provincial and federal level. However they are not a feudal society. Ours is. These feudal lords and political elite would suffer if Pakistan Provinces (like Punjab) would be minimized into smaller administered provinces (for example Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur becoming separate provinces, North Punjab, South Punjab etc.). It's all because of turf/land and feudalism problem that Pakistani creation of more provinces doesnt take place

Pakistan needs it very much. Govt. in power and opposition back in 2008-10 period were agreeing on some of this issue but nothing materialized at all.

Bottom line -- integrate FANA & FATA....Seraiki province, Hazara province, Breaking down of Punjab and Sindh and KPK into smaller provinces would make so much sense. Same applies to Balochistan as well (and not even on ethnic or tribal basis)

It's the bread-basket of Pakistan....Punjabi heartland represents agriculture, and agriculture is an integral part of Pakistani livelihoods.

Your post is well said - I agree with you regarding level playing field (economic and political sense)
