The British were an army that claimed the region from their predecessors, the Sikhs and prior to the Sikhs the Moguls. India cannot deny its Muslim heritage which ruled for hundreds of years nor the land of Pakistan can deny Sikhs and Hindus once ruled. There were well established Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities in the South long before the whole fiasco happened in the North. I don't know much about the origins of Muslim communities in Kerala, but the Jewish communities were well established before Christianity came along. Most of the current Catholic communities in Kerala were followers of the old Syrian church and followed its rites in Aramaic before the Portuguese arrived and told them about the Pope. It became more standardized after the Portuguese.
The Indus region was a wash of empires. The Greeks, Persians, Arabs, Syrians, Mongols, Afghans, Turks and Sikhs all came and settled over the centuries. Pakistanis could belong to any of these ancient groups of people that came and settled.
