We are still a Socialist, Secular Republic. Our poor growth record right from independence upto the 90s had nothing to do with Secularism and everything to do with socialism. Why are you mixing two unrelated concepts?

I am not mixing anything, just opening eyes of some Pakistanis who think secularism will make Pakistan heaven on earth.

.
people don't need to change.
we need a government in place that will garuntee the rights of every person weather he is christian, muslims, shia muslim, atheist , hindu or sikh.
We need to introduce secular policies over time to time. Religious freedom and equality and abolishing some stupid islamic laws would be a good start.

.
Well that'll never happen.Only those with proper evidence against them should be prosecuted.
even right now those with proper evidence are supposed to be persecuted but thats not the case , we see people fabricate evidence and abuse these laws.
Religious freedom is guaranteed by the Pakistani constitution.
then why does it seem like the government of pakistan is unwilling to provide protection of the minorities.
The people who invented the term had definition in mind which was different from the one you and I are familiar with.
and what is that definition bro?

.
I am just saying secularism does not guranteed success.

Look

before going to school/work, you get your hair cut, groom, take shower, wear nice clothes, then you will be well liked and people would like to work with you.

Will that automatically make you the top student in the class? No.

but being a good and kind person will make that path to success a lot easier.

On the other hand if you are unshaven, unkempt, without shower for days, you carry an AK-47 around, hit everyone on the head for not praying, or blow up girls schools, then there is no way you can ever get to be the top student. EVER!

Hope you understand this example.

An inclusive country attracts top CEOs, and big companies and the investments and other hard working people.

Will this automatically make Pakistan rich. No.

We still need to do hard work.

But an Islamist country with gun toting Mullahs doesn't attract top CEOs or big companies. It will attract OBLs.
then no matter what you do, our country cannot progress.

Peace

which laws should be gotten rid of and what should we introduce?

.
It would disintegrate.

In the long term if Pakistan is not secular then its not worth it IMO. Madrassas need to be regulated or banned altoghther. Look at JI, they didnt support Pakistan in 47 and today is the only party who is not supporting operation against terrorists.

These pan islamic mullahs will ensure Pakistan will no longer exist in current form anyway.

But the reasons that you cited have nothing to do with secularism. India's social fabric is the result of secularism, but it's economic development is the result of it's experiment with socialism.

Shittiest, poorest country you say. I request you to explain how exactly has secularism made anyone shitty and poor in India? What was it's role in this aspect?

Completly agree with you there.

.
Yes , Pakistan would definitely disintegrate , if our pseudo-educated youth (home and abroad) continues supporting Islamists(directly or indirectly) ....... Our only chance is separation of church from the state and putting Mullahs back to their original Ouqat (or sending them back to Arabia)
i heard that the balochs had a choice to stay with pakistan or become independent but they chose to stay with pakistan because it would be a united muslim country, do you think that by becoming secular would pakistan have more people asking for independence? like the pathans for pushtunistan ect.

.
The existence of Pakistan is not bought in to question when considering whether the style of governance and society is secular.
Pakistan can continue as a Muslim majority land for Muslims of the sub-continent.

Don't be fooled either, Pakistan won't ever be purely secular or purely an Islamic republic, it's give and take on many issues.
I voted yes, I don't see my faith being questioned or being affected if my country were to become secular, and if I were to view Pakistan from another view, I see mostly benefit from adopting more secular features.

I doubt it will ever happen because the majority of us feel safe under the banner of Islam.

You as an individual feel safe, or does the state of Pakistan feel safe?

Pakistanis need to move on, we cannot continue living under the shadow of our past, our future is the only thing that should matter now. And let me clarify, there is no single banner of Islam, you and I have different views of it. So who's model are we adopting? Mine, yours, imported from Arabia, home grown, western?

.
if we get a secular pakistan where religion and politics are not mixed, what might it look like?
how will it benefit pakistan?
how will it be bad for pakistan?
if we get a secular pakistan in 5 years, what can it achieve in a decade? what will it lose?
list the pros and the cons!

when i say secular, I'm strictly talking about separation of masjid and state!
by becoming secular we don't become atheists!

i request indians to not vote in this poll

Oye Gujjara, you always come up with crazy ideas in your threads and that is why your threads get so much success because controversy sells and you have learnt the art of coming up with controversy with perfection.

Don't derail the thread.
The threat of talibanization has finally woken up the moderate fringe? of Pakistan.
Maybe the recent success of India has played a part too...

Just sit back and see this thread unfold.

i agree with you , but secularism does not gauruntee economic success in the end.

There you go, the problem is with the implementation of law. India is also a secular country but that doesn't improve the state of its minorities.

and what is that definition bro?
To be able to speak against injustice without fearing the bigger fish. unfortunately what we see today is noting but hate speech.
