India believes it is big enough to have an independent foreign policy, but like any other country, big countries like USA and russia has lot of influence on our policy.
Indian politicians and foreign policy maker are obsessed with independent foreign policy(some of which can harm India's interest even) and there is a broad consensus around it. Even right wing BJP which has affinity towards US, wont like to be seen as pro US.

Without reading the article I can tell you this is 100% BS. Time and again India has shown it is an independant nation with its own foreing policy and won't be pushed around or dictated to by others whter it was refusal to impose sanctions on Iran, milatary action in 2011 in Libya, sending troops to Iraq post-2003, signing CISMOA,BECA,LSA etc even the briefest of glances will show India is proud of its long and distinguished history as a non-aligned nation. India has a complelty independatn foreing policy and as India gains ever more power and clout this will only be more true- others, though, can not say the same............

+ it's a shame this "analyst" couldn't have warned his own government of the dangers of getting too close to US a decade back. I suppose if you look at it through the Pakistani prism his theory holds water but the fact is India will never be as close to US as Pakistan is so there is no worry of similar circumstances- grateful for his genuine concern though!!!!!

WEll everyone knows that Sajjad Shoukat just writes India bashing pieces so why the sudden concern for India's fall?

In any case, just wanted to point out one big disperancy

India does not spending 50% of its budget on defence. The Indian budget documents are available for all to see and its around 16-17%. The biggest item is interest payments at 20%.

Pakistan's defence spending is around 35-37% of budget with another 35% going for Interest payments.
