UAE halts sales of Naphtha from Pakistan after getting cosy with India

The same can be said about every single country in the world: That you shouldn't look at other hands to help you, at the end of the road, it's only Pakistan that can help itself, although, you might receive help in the way.

For long, Pakistan has done things that were more in interests of Arab regimes than Pakistan, while they were far away from violence that spilled over to Pakistan after that. Did they come to your help? Not only they didn't, they also wanted to use Pakistani soldiers as cannon fodder in Yemen, which in a wise decision, Pakistan objected and looked after its own interest.

No matter what, even if it comes to Iran, Pakistan should look at its own interests. Though, being neighbors, I believe many of our interests coincide with each other, so we can help each other.

The only thing that I don't like about both entities Arabs and Iran is the fueling of sectarianism in my country. But then again the flaw is in my house. There is no doubt that my pinion has quite changed about Iran in past few months. ( borderattacks ). But I believe there is more to this relation where we have converging intrsts from economic all POV to historical cultural background.

Right now there is lot of trust deficit, yet still Iran is the most favoured country.

I may sound shallow and one dimensional but apart from China, any relationship we have with any other country at best means very little to Pakistan. The likes of UAE, other GCC states, USA, EU etc have never and can never do anything that benefits Pakistan in anyway whatsoever. They have never done anything that has changed the ground realities in Pakistan positively or given Pakistan anything of substance. It was China, and China alone that helped develop and make Pakistan a nuclear weapons state. It was China that has always helped in our nations infrastructure development projects and develop all aspects of the Pakistan military. It is China that is now trying to make Pakistan a fully industrialized nation and given our economy the biggest boost in it's entire history. So if UAE, GCC, USA, EU and all the others broke of all ties with us it would mean nothing in the end. Our relationship with China is the only one that means something. Everything else is meaningless:

The GCC is about as helpful to Pakistan as is Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. They both can't do nothing for us.

it is only one item, I don't see any major problems as Pakistan is one of the big trading partner with UAE, maybe they got better pricing from Indian company, all have to remember Business is Business. But UAE will remain important market for Paks.

UAE is quite important in the context of Pakistan's trade....but Pakistan is not that important in context of UAE's trade.

I crunched some quick numbers and it seems 1/7th of total trade of Pakistan (about 10 billion) is with UAE.

Whereas this number is less than 2% of UAE total trade.

So depends on who's perspective you look at.

If India did an $ 80 billion dollar deal, like the long term LNG deal Pakistan did with the UAE, there is a reason totally other than getting "cozy" with the Indians or the Arabs, etc.

It means, India offered a MASSIVE discount or reduced price, similar to what UAE offered to Pakistan for LNG (15 year deal). So this $ 80 billion isn't for one year of two, if you see how much Naptha Pakistan exported to UAE and its price, time that by years so you are looking at a 20 year long term contract?

These contracts are done at a much reduced price to retain a long term customer. So its not due to the UAE cozying-up to India, its really the Indians cozying-up the price tag for decades to come. Still a good deal for both the countries though . But the impression being given here that the UAE took it away from Pakistan to form strategic alliance with the UAE, is wrong. When anyone doing trade provides billions of dollars worth of benefits, you have no option but to take the discount.

This news doesn't pass the smell test. If we buy the numbers, Pakistan exported a total of ~19,000 tons of naphtha (both types) last year. But this is barely anything - the entire annual exports of Pakistan wouldn't even fill up a small size tanker.

A single Indian oil refinery (say at Jamnagar, Mumbai, Mangalore or Chennai) can produce way more naphtha than this in a month. Just for comparison, I think India exported close to 80 million tons - 80,000,000 of petroleum products (diesel, petrol, naphtha etc) during the last financial year.

Its obvious that Pakistan is a minor player in the petroleum business - UAE choosing to buy a fraction of a cargo from Pakistan seems to be more a commercial decision - to which some really fertile minds in media are giving an Indo-Pak twist.
