What's new

‘TV, cinema tools of Satan, must be buried’

I don't think this idea will work amongst the vast majority of Muslims of India.

Not only the film industry has important stars who are Muslims, but also, amongst the poor, TV and films are a major source of entertainment. '

It will become like Malaysia, where the girls take off their tudung and swig beer just to avoid the Moral Police.

I think the instructions are misplaced.
Malaysia is much vibrant than India

No doubt that many Indian soaps are full of BS but there are quite many shows like 'Baalika Vadhu' which actually show the social ills and give a moral message too.

JACK i am all for good objective programs aimed at reforming the society and if you are unbiased you will agree with me that Indian soaps are more than crappy above all these soaps are only damaging image of India for these are widely watched in subcontinent even in SL and may be same for BD.

i wonder what your drama production team in mind for showing that Indian families are all sazishi one way or the other and show outlandish things which have no link with reality

LOL, Sure it is.

Since I've lived there and have many malaysian friends I can tell you they have some really serious issues that the govt and majority there want to push under the carpet.

I agree its a vibrant place though, not balanced at all.

I am yet to see a fatwa on guns and mobiles...the two western inventions which has revolutionised terrorism...

P.S: Iam not asking for a ban on mobiles..iam just saying when they can issue fatwa against TVs and Movies, then y not cell phones..

How do you go from as you describe a "fatwa" to terrorism ? I am trying understand what triggers that thought in you. If a guy says don't watch tv, dump your tv, how is that related to terrorism ? For the life of me I don't get it !!

just watch the programs and forget them. they are for home maker women and are popular among them. also, as majority of urban indian families are now have just one or two kids and no Dada dadi. so there is now nostalgia of joint family in indian metro cities. so indian soaps show joint families.

:))))) well what can i say. on a neutral note if our TV channels resort to such crap seriously i will oppose it as more than constructive things your soaps are preaching many things which are showing Indian families and normal life in a very abnormal way.

Jana we have a free media. Our production houses make whatever they feel like be it reality TV or soap operas. Only control we have over them is through the Information and Broadcasting Ministry which keeps their content under check but even they refrain from going overboard with it or else, being a democracy, there will be a lot of hue and cry over 'how the govt. is trying to curtail the freedom of speech'.

Apart from that, we have really no control over them. It's for the people to decide what to watch and what to not watch.

As far as image of India is concerned, I think I can safely bet on the wisdom of the general public to not judge a country and its people by its TV serials. If some Indian TV serials are crap that doesn't mean India or Indian public is crap.

Indian TV serials are doing just what they are meant to do i.e. make money. They should not be taken for anything other than that.

Malaysia does not discriminate ? :woot:

Why did Singapore break off from the Malaysian union? The Bumiputra campaign anyone ?

Pakistan's religious laws are better than Malaysia's !

Malaysian and Pakistani theocracies

Malaysia is often quoted as a model by some members of our urban middle class, which is impressed with the glitter of that country but are completely ignorant of its constitution and laws. In my view, in so far as constitutions go, the Malaysian constitution is the worst and the least free amongst all the states that emerged from a British colonial system. It is also the most oppressive legal system when it comes to the rights of Muslims. To start with, only the Shafi brand of Sunni Islam is recognised as Islam in Malaysia. Minority sects, especially the Shia Muslims, are persecuted and driven underground. Shia Islam is banned by law and only recently a group of Shia mourners were rounded up by the police for practising their faith. Malaysia is as theocratic as a theocracy can be. However, to Malaysia’s credit, the Indian and Chinese ethnic populations as well as the apostates who decide to leave Islam are allowed to live their lives freely (though Malays who choose to convert out of the faith lose their constitutional privileges).
