Turkish Peace Operations in Syria (Operation Olive Branch) Updates & Discussions

FSA doesn't exist anymore, it's groups such as Ahrar al Sham, they're Islamist. The new attempt of an FSA is the NSA (New Syrian army) which is tiny. Even the US 'gave up' on them aside from the 'New Syrian army', they're terrorists.

Well either way clearly both the TAF and "FSA" are putting in work in Syria against ISIS/YPG/PKK.

.
The FSA are a bunch of useless terrorists.. Try to work out a deal with assad and start with him joint operations against both ISIS and PKK.

DEASH improved it is war tactics on the field of Third part of euphrates shield operation. They deployed thousands of mines and bomb traps on the field so that Turkish army and FSA cant progress fast. Also they send more car bombs and suicidal on FSA, other side they have enough ATGMs for stopping Turkish tanks. 2 FSA commandars died last 2 days also 5 or 6 commander killed last two week somehow, looks someone try to sabotage operations!?

Btw, 9 villages captured last 3 days also DEASH recapture tell hajar at havahoyuk, clashes going on there.

Armed groups using the Free Syrian Army label[edit]
List of groups who used or use the label[edit]
Strength[edit]
A reliable indication of the strength of FSA has not yet been given.
In November 2011, FSA announced their strength amounting to 25,000 fighters.[35] In December 2011, the US International Business Times stated without corroboration that the FSA counted 15,000 ex-Syrian soldiers.[36]

In March 2014, FSA’s 13th Division claimed that it counted 1,800 fighters.[164]

In May 2015, a Jabhat al-Nusra spokesman said that FSA fighters in southern Syria alone numbered roughly 60,000[165] (while another Nusra leader in December 2015 was to deny the existence of FSA[166]).

In December 2015, the Istanbul-based think tank Omran Dirasat estimated the FSA to count 35,000 fighters in 27 larger factions of about 1,000 fighters and some smaller units.[142]

That's what's written on paper, when you look at reality it's different.

Years ago the initial idea of the Free Syrian Army was a secular force opposing the Syrian regime military, this was the same force the US supported. That has all changed since 2013, what used to the FSA in the northern Syrian region underwent many changes. Groups split and new ones rose, the FSA commanders who are residing in foreign hotels have no influence on the ground anymore, they used to back in the day but that changed.

The 'FSA' on the Jordanian border differs from those near the Turkish border. They used to be one group, of what use is it to label them all FSA when they're separate groups with separate command who all follow a different ideology. One refuses to work with the US, the other works with the US.

With the failure of that FSA the US came with a new similar plan but a group that focuses on IS, the NSA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Syrian_Army Turns out not many are joining that group, only people forced to fled who now want to free their towns/villages held by IS. Not many motivated non-Islamist fighters join them, they join the SAA.

Wikipedia quotes news sources saying the following, the situation was very different in 2011 and 2012.

From July 2012 onward, ill-discipline and infighting weakened FSA, while jihadist groups became dominant within the armed opposition.[7]
