(Mil) Turkish Defense Company & Undersecratiat For Defense Industries Sign Major Deal







ISTANBUL (A.A) - 18.03.2010 - Turkey's leading electronic defense company ASELSAN and the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) have signed a 120.3 million EUR deal.
ASELSAN and SSM signed an agreement for the design and development activities of "Self-Propelled Low Altitude Air Defence Gun System Project" and "35 mm Oerlikon Fire Control System Modernization and Procurement Project", a statement from ASELSAN said on Thursday.

The objective of the "Self-Propelled Low Altitude Air Defence Gun System Project" is to perform the air defense needs of the armored and mechanized troops of Turkish Land Forces against threats which pass the airplanes and long/medium altitude air defence systems.

The "35 mm Oerlikon Fire Control System Modernization and Procurement Project" aims at performing battle management, command, control, communication and intelligence functions of low altitude air defense missile/gun systems. (DO-AÇ)

I see Turkey will be big exporter of high tech weapon in next five years. Weapon which are Turkey is developing has much application in disturb terrain, specially both Pak and Turkey. These light cheap and small precision strike weapon play vital and decisive role in rocky terrain of FATA and Kurd region along Iraq border.

As you said, 35mm anti-aircraft guns can be integrated for naval platforms as a CIWS role and also usefull to destroy land targets as well, If It is necessary. SPAAG technology will help Turkey and brother countries to increase the engagement capabilities to higher levels.

Those SPAAG units will work under an intelligent software umbrella called "SKYWATCHER Air Defence Early Warning and Command Control System" developed by Aselsan. I mean While Aselsan Radars are tracking the targets and sending the datas simultaneously, Those Guns will just auto-follow their targets thanks to network centric warfare softwares and When in time, Operator will just click the button to engage the enemy targets..

It is very inessential for ground units to operate in conjunction with mobilized air defence systems other wise your ground units are in hot water from enemy air strikes. Not only will they prove air cover against slow moving air crafts but the most significant improvement is capability to engage air to ground armaments. A legacy Low level air defence system such as Tunguska M1 was itself a target by air threats but next generation systems will provide full protection.

I want PA to JV with Turkey and get this baby in.

Do you know how much each system costs? When will it be operational? and How much is your military requirement?

At current situation, 120 million Euro will be paid to Aselsan for Phase-I (Designment and Development of this turret). I do not know wheather AHEAD munition R&D have been involved in this amount but Programmable munition agreement have been signed between MKEK and Aselsan way before than Spaag agreement and According to roadway, AHEAD munitions will be developed until 2012 but I do not know When Aselsan turret will be ready or operational.

Spaag is not the specific name of Aselsan program. Spaag is the general name of those type systems such as Thunguska, Pantsir, Gepard...etc
