Turkey to host Greek fighters for the first time at NATO's 2015 'Tiger Meet'

Turkey is to host Greece for the first time at a multinational NATO exercise in May 2015, marking an important step in the easing of tensions between the two nations.

Until recently pilots from the two NATO nations were regularly conducting hostile dog-fighting manoeuvres against each other in disputed airspace over the Aegean Sea. In 2006 a Greek pilot was killed after Greek and Turkish F-16s collided as they sparred over the Aegean.

Greek and Turkish fighters from the 335th and 192nd fleets, respectively, will join other alliance members in NATO's 'Tiger Meet' exercises, to be staged at Turkey's central Anatolian town of Konya between 4 and 15 May 2015, Turkish and Greek sources confirmed to IHS Jane's .

The two countries have been embroiled in an unresolved, decades-old dispute concerning sovereignty rights in the Aegean Sea, as well as over the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus, which is divided between Turkish and Greek Cypriots.

Tensions that had relaxed between the two countries in recent years have flared again following Greek Cypriot attempts to conduct oil drilling activities around the disputed island, prompting the Turkish Navy to be deployed in the region.

A total of around 100 fighter aircraft from 11 countries, including Greece, are expected to take part in Tiger Meet.

I don't like greeks.. I don't trust them.. make economic ties but dont teach them to fight us..

as one living in germany you should see how greeks are.. you had a little taste of them when they had economical crisis and germany went to help them out..

I dont need their trust.. they dont need mine.. and I know they dont trust us ..

we just need respect for peace.. I dont have to be their best friends.. but I have to be a good neighboor.. thyts why I would make economical ties but no military cooperation..

I´m italian / german and i know that germany paid not one € for greece. Its all promise and bla bla. Look amigo. We all sit in the same boat. italy, greece, turkey, france, spain. We 5 have the main duty to make security in the mediterranean. In this we must work together.

italy is a secure place and trustworthy partner.. but not greece.. as I said if we stay friendly or better say peacefull than everything is done right.. there things we can do and things that dont work.. just stay each other away while coming in some issues together maybe in 30 years it will be better who knows?

But we have crisis in the mediterranean now, not in 30 years. I know greece is not the best partner...we have our own experiences with them during various incidents. But situation is bad now. Turkey is flooded from syrian refugee. The coast infront italy becomes a graveyard for refugees from north africa. Italy basicly guards the mid med. Turkey the east med...and greece a large part between this.

Imagine when we would leave greece out of this a large part of the med would be open and unprotected. Thats what i mean with we must cooperate also in military aspects. Maybe not in all...

this ppl dont want to come to turkey nor greece they want to go to france, germany sweden etc we are not protecting our rights or interests .. but you are right its not a good situation for the refugees.. but this is not what I talked about

ROFL... You reflect exactly the same hypocrisy what European states have.. When it comes to security we are in same boat sh.t story, but when it comes to other stuff, Turks don't belong to Europe bla bla... So when Cyprus is drilling undersea ground for gas, which doesn't belong to her alone, what's your great 4 countries', or EU's as one, reflection about it? Don't you think it's a clear provacation without dealing with the TRNC?

There you have it Greeks already fed up with the EU... Forget about Turk v Euro relations, there are huge differencies and disagreements between Europeans themselves. Most of them are uncomfortable with the German French opressive hegemonic duo which makes the union a politic tool for their benefits in the international political area.

This is a Greek paper with Tukish open letter for PM Davutoglu....

Enough already with bullying, Let's make a deal !
You should understand that we want you as our friends not enemy just like last hundred years. Think about how strong we could be together Turkey, Greece and Cyprus"

...and begging goes on all first page long.. .
It's a good sign for them to understand who is the boss and small countries in the EU are just tools for bigger ones...

This part is priceless :D.. Some should translate all for non-Turkish speakers...
" We know you have a bigger army than ours and Turks are great fighters "

Greece could be one of the biggest if not the biggest economic partner of Turkey once the problems are solved but who knows when it will be solved thats another question.

Before we can talk with Greeks, they should first be honest and deal with us fairly instead of hiding behind the EU shield (and serving their interests of keeping hostilities alive between Greeks and us) or Turkey should go KRG style on them and try to make them dependent on us step by step by investing, buying assets, common projects and such step by step when possible and if possible. i welcome more co-operation with Greeks if they are also honest and willing.

They are preparing to give EU the finger:-). They are bankrupt and the money they earn from oil/gas will go to creditors. Ther is something fishy going on. Ther was a time when greece was economics and millitary stronger then us. Back then they wher really hostile. Shot our warships and fighters. Why not back then and now willing to forgot the past?
