That about sums up the differences in how business is done in Western countries and China. I find negotiating with Chinese too difficult, everything is too one sided so I don't even bother.
Given the market space we operate in this will make very little difference to us in the long run. Quality control in our supply chains is paramount, of our 29 suppliers not a single one is based in China. We have some very specialized machinery we had built locally but little else. We probably won't export to China, and we won't contract manufacture in China. It's in the nature of our products why we have developed this way.
It doesn't change how I treat Chinese people that I meet, everybody deserves respect and acceptance (even if they do not reciprocate). I just avoid doing business with them, there are just easier people to deal with. I don't have any malice towards them, there are things about Chinese culture I really admire but business ethics isn't one of them.
