Pray tell us, logic dictates if people were forcibly converted, then why they or their generations continue to practice Islam even after the death of tipu sultan ?

I guess he meant british indian ..

Your forefathers were Indians. So now we can claim Pakistan is still part of India , sir??

My forefathers were "british indian" technically and ethnically they had nothing to do with you, your culture or your religion for that matter. Apart from invasions of North Indian States.

Mumbai, April 22:
A historic collection of arms and armour of Tipu Sultan, the last king of Mysore, fetched over six million pounds (about Rs.567 million) at an Islamic and Indian art auction in London, an official said here on Wednesday.

The 30 items, which went under the hammer at Bonhams on Tuesday, came from a single collection. The identity of the buyers, from around the world, has been kept confidential.

Tipu Sultan's personal motif was the tiger. Images of the animal, the tiger-stripe design adorned his both objects of art and instruments of war.

The top lot in the auction was a rare gem-set sword with the tiger's head pommel from Tipu Sultan's royal regalia, estimated at around 60,000-80,000 pounds, but was sold for a staggering 2,154,500 pounds.

A three-pounder cannon, with field carriage, was sold for 1,426,500 pounds against an estimated value of between 40,000-60,000 pounds.

A magnificent two-shot flintlock sporting gun from Tipu Sultan's personal armoury was sold for 722,500 pounds, more than seven times its estimated value.

The other items in the collection included sabres, gem-set trophy swords, embroidered arrow quivers, exquisite quilted helmets, blunderbusses, fowling pieces, sporting guns, pistols and a three-pounder bronze cannon, each a work of art in its own right, said Claire Penhallurick, a spokesperson for Bonhams auction house.

Renowned as the Tiger of Mysore, Tipu Sultan's famous personal sword was bought in April 2004, by Indian liquor baron Vijay Mallya in an auction in London and brought back to India.

It was lost in 1789 during the battle of Nedumkotta, Travancore, and later wound its way to Britain, where it was displayed by the Wallace Collection till Mallya successfully bid for it.

In 2013, another sword owned by Tipu Sultan, decorated with the tiger stripe motif, surfaced and was auctioned by Sotheby's to telephonic bidder for 98,500 pounds.

Pray tell us, logic dictates if people were forcibly converted, then why they or their generations continue to practice Islam even after the death of tipu sultan ?

A very basic and valid question.

One which deserves a thread of its own in its own right.

Why do future generations of those who were converted to Islam violently, remain Muslim long after the immediate peril has ceased?

We could actually have the participation of so many other nationalities here besides the traditional Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi, as it is germane to the advent and growth of Islam in so many countries and across so many cultures and civilizations across the world.

.
Which india ? British India or the subcontinent ? Which comprised of several states like Mysore itself ruled by Sultan Tipu?

He share our blood, culture, religion and ethnicity not you .. We consider him as our our blood,a hero !

You consider him a foriegner(previous posts),a tyrant and what not! The only thing you have for him is hatred !
Again it is not about religion and culture. It's all about nationality. Tipu called himself a Hindustani. Being an Muslim doesn't mean he was Indonesian. As I said only Indian Muslims can claim that he was one of them. We here are talking about nationality not religion. And always remember Muslims lives in India more than Pakistan.

What? If you are of Indonesian origin you will always remain Indonesian and not indian!

You don't even claim Tipu who according to you was a bigoted hindu hating tyrant who slaughtered hindus and destroyed temples..

He was the Sultan of the state of Mysore and of Punjabi Musalman origin ! One of our people and not an idle or sambar or whatever eating dravid or a marathi or deccani.

And no Pak is the second largest muslim country after indonesia not india .

His father was the slave of Wadiyar when he usurped the power from them, and just like his father ,this coward submitted himself to French and if it wasn't for British he would have been killed by Marathas who humiliated him before but spared his life

 funny it's the opposite actually.. H ones the wadiyara, defeated the baita n others .. Hired the French generals and experts meanwhile the defeated "hindu warriors" who submitted to the british

My forefathers were also " British Indian". So I should call myself British??? Don't try to hide your facts in hate. Agar koi apke ghar par kabja karke baith jaaye to it doesn't mean it will change your identity. You still belongs to your house.

After thoroughly humiliated by Marathas he had no option but to seek French help and call himself

"citizen" tipu

Apart being the fact that he was mutilated beyond recognition by Bengal Army consists of martial Races of North India

There are two dominant reasons why the forcefully converted did not revert.
1. Socio economic : those who had converted were given land taken away from the non Muslims who had fled. Reverting would make them lose it. Plus as Muslims they felt safe from future Jihadi invasions. They knew that even as a Muslim one is safe in a Hindu kingdom. Not so as a Hindu in Tipu's one. Plus many Hindus then were far too conservative in certain places...of course this was of little concern where whole villages were converted by sword.
2. This is more fundamental. Reverting from Islam carries the death penalty. It's a very convenient and strong deterrent. Even after Tipu's fall there were enough loyalists who made sure that anybody dreaming of leaving Islam could be put to death.

This method had been perfected by champions of the RoP for centuries. The mallus, brave though they were, stood no chance. But still they survived albeit in part.

Still, many did revert to their parent faith.

There is nothing wrong with jamahir view..Even if i am a Karnataka urdu Muslim like him,i will do exactly...
I am living in Bangalore and i know how the local Kannada Hindu population are treating/viewing local Urdu Muslims in Bangalore and Karnataka...Its disgusting...Even there was an anti Muslim revolt in Bangalore some years ago..,Sadly,but true...So his hatred is natural...
Very true. The Muslims in Karnataka are staunch fans of Tipu. They had it all. They had the power to kill, convert, rape as they pleased...which they did. After Tipu, they did not. The non Muslims learnt this lesson by heart. It stays till today.

Very preliminary remarks. Scratching of the barrel really.

Fine cultural, regional, civilizational, ethnic, religious nuances would be there from people to people I'm sure.

Can we start a dedicated thread please?

Dedicated thread? No.

Dedicated thread? No.

The reason I ask is that unlike most Muslim nations on earth that were converted en masse, India presents probably the only entity that resisted successfully. I call 2 out of every 3 a successful strike rate here.

So we have the opportunity of actually debating revisionism (as we see here and across the forum) between the same people.

Whereas in the case of the completely converted, there is a national civilizational narrative of the insiders, and outsiders debate it. Not quite the same thing.
