Threat Alert: Islamabad - Credible ⚠️

All I can say is, well done. The security agencies who were busy arresting a 70+ senator and shelling the shyt out if peaceful protestors, really dropped the ball here. I mean, WTF. Its like being in 2007 again. Except worse since I had washboard abs then and a paunch now.

Pakistani common civilians are expendable by the establishment and 1% elites. They live in gated communities. Terrorism is just fun and yes... Fireworks for their corrupt children to watch for fun.

Hell even the Pakistani establishment does its own terrorism against Pakistanis even Murdering them in Kenya.

This is the hallmark of a failed state.

Nah, Imran Khan is their obsession for now until they themselves murder him

10000000% agreed.

25 police checkpoints set up in Islamabad as part of ‘special’ security plan

In light of growing security concerns, Islamabad police issued on Tuesday a “special” plan that introduces 25 temporary checkposts in the city and requires citizens and foreigners to carry their identification documents with them.

According to the security plan, shared on Islamabad police’s official Twitter, entry points of the Red Zone will be recorded via Safe City cameras while video surveillance of metro bus passengers would also be conducted.
Police asked the capital’s citizens, as well as foreigners, to carry their identification documents with them.

Authorities also warned of action over non-specimen number plates and unregistered vehicles, directing citizens to ensure their vehicles had number plates issued by the excise office.

Measures under this plan also require landlords and employers to register their tenants and employees at a nearby police station or khidmat marakiz (facilitation centres).

Police said citizens who had employed unregistered local or foreign workers would also be investigated.

They appealed to citizens to inform authorities of any unusual activity on the 15-helpline.

This plan has been devised as Pakistan continues to see a rise in terror incidents in recent days, particularly after the militant Tehereek-i-Taliban Pakistan called off the ceasefire between them and the government in late November.

Last Friday, a bomb blast in the capital’s I-10 sector claimed the life of a police constable and left six others injured — the first major incident of terrorism in Islamabad following the onset of the recent wave of militancy that was initially limited to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Two days after the blast, the US embassy in Islamabad had issued a security alert, prohibiting its staff from visiting the city’s Marriott Hotel due to concerns of a “possible attack”.

The same day, Islamabad police had raised security to high alert in the capital.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and Australia issued separate security alerts on Monday, asking their citizens to limit their movement in Pakistan.

Terrorism is mainly driven by ideology which is nurtured by people who exploit communities or groups who feel they have lost a sense of agency or feel disillusioned and disenfranchised.

To counter the menace of terrorism what you need is a cultural change, this comes initially through a deep dive study into the drivers of terrorism - Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies have done some excellent research and authored working papers - many of which are available free of cost or for a small fee from most popular bookshops in Pakistan - their website can be found here: https://www.pakpips.com/

Once you have an understanding of the drivers that cause people to move from "disillusioned and disenfranchised" to "disgruntled" through to the "activist" stage - this is the stage where you need to counter the toxic narrative though a number of confidence building measures in the community which can range from inclusion in the democratic process and to build a sense of "ownership" for the communities and a unified identity.

Initially what is required once you have a "bigger picture" is a working strategy which needs to consist of education, information, communication, prevention, protection, engagement and enforcement. Fighting ideas with guns and bombs never works in the long run. What is needed is to starve the vipers of their pool of potential recruits by wining hearts and minds and changing the sense of "us against them" narrative.

This is achieved through what is called ICE: Information, Communication, Education - this can be audio, visual, written or communicated through social mobilisers like the polio education scheme, Afterall terrorism and violent extremism is no different to any other pandemic.

The key here is "Early intervention" "Early intervention "Early intervention":

Only through achieving community "buy-in" and active participation can you counter the menace of terrorism, deny terrorists the funding, freedom of movement and space to share their toxic ideology with a powerful full spectrum counter-terrorism and CVE (Countering Violent Extremism) strategy.

Such a program requires a broad spectrum of input from professionals from all walks of life ranging from humanitarians, community activists, educators, academics, legal professionals, health care (including mental health) professionals, law enforcement, military, and policy makers.

One successful model that I would like to seem adopted in Pakistan is the UK's CONTEST counter-terrorism strategy:

To give citizens a stake in countering terrorism both at the prevent and protect stage Pakistan should consider a program in-line with the popular "First Observer" scheme in the USA:

In the wake of a possible terrorist attack in Islamabad, security has been put on high alert with law enforcement agencies issuing a picture of the likely suicide bomber who might target the capital city, Express News reported.

The development comes days after the US, UK, Saudi Arabian and Australian governments issued advisories to their respective citizens in Pakistan, prohibiting their nationals in the country from visiting a five-star hotel in Islamabad because of the possible threat of a terrorist attack.

The unprecedented advisory and threat alert were issued after a police official embraced martyrdom and several others were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up during a check-up in Sector I-10 of Islamabad.

This was the first suicide attack in the federal capital in more than eight years, police officials and witnesses had said.

The bombing, claimed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), took place near the police headquarters on the main road leading to government buildings housing the parliament and other high offices.

According to sources, law enforcement agencies have been informed by intelligence officials that a terrorist named Zakir Khan s/o Laiq hailing from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa might try to enter Islamabad for terrorist activity.

They said that law enforcement agencies have alerted the police in the capital. Authorities have put in place strict security measures and a red alert has been issued for the capital.

The security of the Parliament House has also been tightened as additional FC personnel have been deployed at the outer gate. The entry of unrelated persons has also been banned.
Sources revealed that gate one of the Parliament House has been made accessible. The meetings of standing committees have been postponed whereas only parliamentarians, employees and registered journalists are allowed to enter the Parliament House.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad police are conducting snap checks in different areas of the city, causing problems to the citizens.

Citizens have been advised to leave 15 to 20 minutes early to go to offices or business places due to tight security measures in view of the terror threat.

The police have appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the officials during checking and report any unusual activity immediately.

I was thinking... 'grace' bhi nahi tha kabhi.

It may have been marginally better than the current (blatant) tyranny, but we've always been a GHQ colony. Maybe people have opened up their eyes because a well-intentioned leader was unceremoniously discarded and tried-and-tested corrupt clowns were installed... again.
