The Murder of Osama Bin Laden. U S Pakistan Partners in Crime Seymour Hersh

The ISI, the story claims, initially got onto bin Laden, who had lived undetected from 2001 to 2006 with some of his wives and children in the Hindu Kush mountains, by paying some of the local tribal people to betray him.

Tribal people  , Enough to know Mr Hersh's knowledge and information about this subject.

What people forget is Pakistan and US have had a long relationship now with high and lows.
Personally...I did not merely lived thru the Cold War but was active duty during that time, so as a minor student of current affairs, then and now, I am aware of the difficult US-Pakistan relationship.

Look at it this way...A divided government is a reflection of a divided populace. The two are always in a push-pull relationship. Using US as an example, it was US foreign policy that pushed the country into SE Asia and for a while, pulled the American public along. Pulled or fooled, depending on one's political bias, of course. As the Vietnam War progressed, the American public's dissatisfaction with the war pushed the people's discontent into prominence and pulled the government along, and the US being a representative republic, its politicians felt compelled to obey.

Pakistan is a divided country, not just politically, but the fact that a large region of the country is not being effectively governed by the central government, Pakistan is on the verge of being geographically divided. Jokingly, cartographers have new maps readied for immediate issuance. How deep is that division among the people ? How high up in government is that same division ? The Pakistani members here would know that better than we American members do. But the bottom line is that the American people do not need to know the details of your division. We just want to know the geography of our conflicts, whether it was the commies of yesterday or of the religious nuts of today, and we will make our opinions known to our politicians.

How much do you Pakistanis want to pull your government ? If you are already a divided society, and if the Americans on this forum dare to guess based upon the debates you guys have among yourselves, you will tear your government asunder. Not apparently, but beneath the facade that is the Pakistani government, your politicians will be killing each other, figuratively if not literally. Conspiracy theories aside, the fact that Osama bin Laden managed not only to live inside Pakistan but to actually lived well, means the division in your society is deep.

Am I wrong ? I hope so.

Those are the type of people who i detest. They have no principles and honour. The rogue agent should be hunted down and taken care off.
If you think calmly about it. Person concerned is not a saint. He is senior Intelligence officer who would have done lot of bad things for country and himself ( as the job would demand). He probably does not have moral standards or other feel good things. He find a chance to earn 250 crore Pakistani rupee. Wow - that would be his reaction. He evaluate it. He thinks that if he does not do, someone else will. If you think more, he is giving information on most wanted terrorist. Not a bad thing in itself. In the end, he decide to get rich and live comfortable life.

it could be true, check what Asad Durrani had to say about what possibly went down and whether OBL was 'handed over'

LOL. Good to know that ISI and Pak Army will sell their own people for the right price

Maybe we should just pay the ISI to hand over Dawood and hafeeze and other scum bags :P.......... it would be much cheaper that way.

Just one last question ? Does the ISI train Somali pirate too or do the pirates train ISI ?

They too release people for the right price :D
LOL :sarcastic:

@gambit

Yes, I cannot deny that we have serious problems mostly to do with radical Islamic groups like Taliban-Pak or TTP. These groups are the product of the 1980s Jihad we had against Soviet Union when as policy radical Islamic groups wre nurtured to fight the Soviets.

CRG -- The CIA's Intervention in Afghanistan

Q: And neither do you regret having supported the Islamic fundamentalism, having given arms and advice to future terrorists?

B: What is most important to the history of the world? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some stirred-up Moslems or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the cold war?

However I find it tedious or even frustrating when I see those stupid maps showing how Pakistan is going to fall apart. This is a country that has military of 600,000 men, full blown nuclear strike force with missile capacity to hit targets 2000 miles is not about to crumble because of some stupid Mullahs or Taliban.

Pakistan has a large, educated, English speaking middle class which is not about of have it's lifestyle compromised by Taliban. Pakistan rest assured is not Afghanistan even if we get hyphenated with them.

What I can tell you is we have a strip of territory on the Afghan border which legally is a semi autonmous region which has tribes living there related to Afghans who are free to live as they want. They are only required to accept nominal jurisdiction of federal Pakistan government authority. This strip is similar to the wild west in your history. The British made this arrangement with the wild tribes on the border and that arrangement has been kept. This strip is called FATA.

Federally Administered Tribal Areas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Almost all the Taliban are based there and most of the horror stories you hear take place in FATA. Of course sometimes trouble spills over but right now FATA is subject to full blown military occupation so to say to bring it under full central control.

However when I read the reports on Pakistan the 2% FATA is used to explain away 98% of the country. That would be like me deciding to size up USA by using Bronx or some other tough neighbourhood in USA. I realise the analogy does not quite fit but I hope you get the thrust of what I am saying.

Anyway good day to you.

We have some great minds and writers here, how about we get together whip up the "Real bin Laden story" quote a few anonymus Pakistan intelligence sources. We need idea and like any good story it needs sex corruption and the Americans need to be to blame. The sales from the book could go to Webby to help fund PDF

REPORT: Osama Bin Laden Used Viagra And 'Just-For-Men' To Keep His Wives Interested In Him - Business Insider

Hi,

It is easy to blame the weak----did the CNN FOXNEWS MSNBC ---did any one of these media outlets ever make a statement and blamed the U S military of its failures in Afghanistan----.

Do you lilly white americans really believe in the bravery of your soldiers in Afghanistan---these cwards had the backing of gunship heicopters---C130 gunships---A 10 warthogs---F16's---F18's---missile strikes---heavy gun support---drone strikes----.50 caliber siper rifles---and what are they fighting against----.

Fighting against those equipped with AK47's and RPG's---with no body armor---no protection---no medevac----. What a fcuking drama the U S military created in Afghanistan----GOT AN ACADEMY AWARD while coming out the worst in this drama.

Medals of honor are being distributed like candies for fighting the most ill equipped fighters in the world---and the American soldiers are proud too own them---what a third rate military----. How the standards of a great warring nation has gone down---.

They used to dive deep in strong oceans and come out with pearls to show their bravery----now they dive in a shit pool and come out with shiny quartz and claim their valor---.

US Strategy was conduct missions kill a few low level people, some commanders of course - the head back to base. It wasnt a conventional - just a guerilla war with people who are natural fighters. You have to address the root causes, not just assume it can ALLLL be settled with bullets. In our case, the TTP (non Afghan) they have no cause. In Afghanistan - US couldnt even go after all taleban unless they levelled 60% f the country....even then, you just cant defeat Afghans in non conventional war. It's impossible, no army has done it

what's sad is there is a segment of society who supports the ilk of OBL ....nobody in positions of power but some lower income or middle class people - they surely were enamored by him but to insinuate that all Pak population is 'extremist' is very intellectually lazy

We dont elective religious extremist to be PM or president....unlike certain regional countries

Source :- Pakistani generals 'sold' bin Laden to US: Report - The Times of India

WASHINGTON: Senior Pakistani army generals and top ISI honchos purportedly hosted Osama bin Laden in an Abbottabad hideout since 2006 before selling him out to the US in 2011 after a Pakistani intelligence officer betrayed him for the $25 million bounty, veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh has claimed.

In a 10,000-word piece in the London Review of Books, Hersh, famed for his exposes on US excesses during the Vietnam War and after, also alleges that the US raid on Abbottabad was pretty much a cakewalk after Pakistan's then top generals, Army chief Pervez Ashfaq Kayani and ISI head Ahmad Shuja Pasha, cooperated with the Americans under both threats and inducements, including personal blandishments.

President Obama, Hersh suggests, milked the episode for domestic political gains, including a second term re-election, after reneging on US promises to Pakistan about when and how the raid would be revealed to the world.

Hersh has based much of his account on one principal source -- an unnamed and retired senior US intelligence official -- and a couple of tenuous corroborative sources in a piece that has set political Washington alight. Government officials and critics often dismiss his style of journalism quoting anonymous sources to make outlandish claims, but editors who publish his work have said in the past they are aware the names of his sources and have no reason to doubt his work.

According to Hersh, the story of the bin Laden raid began with the August 2010 walk-in of a senior Pakistani intelligence officer, who told the CIA station chief at the US Embassy in Islamabad Jonathan Banks he could reveal bin Laden's location in return for reward money. Skeptical Americans then flew in a polygraph team to check his claims (he passed the test) before cornering Pasha (during a visit to Washington) and Kayani. Hersh and his source put a protective spin on Pakistani perfidy by rationalizing their hosting of the man who killed 3,000 Americans, maintaining that - ''if you have someone like Osama bin Laden, you are not going to simply hand him over to the United States without a quid pro quo.''

The quid pro quo in this case not only involved continued of US military aid to Pakistan, ''a good percentage of which was anti-terrorism funding that finances personal security, such as bullet-proof limousines and security guards and housing for the ISI leadership,'' but also personal bribing, ''under-the-table personal 'incentives' that were financed by off-the-books Pentagon contingency funds.'' The US also promised Pakistan 'a freer hand' in Afghanistan as it began its military draw-down there.

Consequent to this secret deal, the Pakistani generals gave the US bin Laden's precise coordinates -- right down to the location of his room in the Abbottabad bungalow - and also ensured he was left with no protection. ISI guards protecting bin Laden were asked to leave as soon as they heard U.S choppers, and electricity to the area was cut off. They also made sure Pakistan's army and air defence command would not track or engage with the US helicopters used on the mission.

According to the Hersh's American sources, the raid was virtual walk-in and walk-out and the Navy Seals virtually shot dead an unarmed, invalid man. Hersh also claims there was no burial at sea with Islamic rites for bin Laden on the USS Carl Vinson, as the U.S later claimed; the old man had been shot to pieces during the raid and his body parts were tossed over the Hindu Kush as the raiding party returned to Afghanisan.

The story claims that Obama decided to immediately go public with the raid in part because of the botch-up with the stalled helicopter which had to be destroyed, making it hard to keep the raid a secret. But he also had political motives. ''The killing of bin Laden was political theatre designed to burnish Obama's military credentials. It's irresistible to a politician. Bin Laden became a working asset,'' Hersh quotes one of his sources as saying.

Hersh's piece also reveals the US actually sold Shakil Afridi, a CIA asset, down the drain, asking Pakistanis to nab him while springing free Amir Aziz, a doctor and a major in the Pakistani army who was instrumental in getting bin Laden's DNA sample that conclusively proved his identity. Amir was also rewarded from the $ 25 million bounty.

The ISI, the story claims, initially got onto bin Laden, who had lived undetected from 2001 to 2006 with some of his wives and children in the Hindu Kush mountains, by paying some of the local tribal people to betray him. Hersh's account also maintains the Saudis were fully aware of Pakistan's protective custody of bin Laden and in fact they paid Pakistanis to keep him under wraps.

It's obvious that ISI was giving that filthy swine shit a shelter. But the arrangement of ISI officials handing out info to CIA can't be a formal agreement. Maybe some retired general sold the info out. Ofc the doctor was our tactical person on the ground. ;)

Pakistan had no use of OBL .. Before him several important AQ commanders were captured or killed by ISI (and handed to Usa)...

So I wouldn't be surprised that Pakistan "sold" or took benefit of screwing him over (that's if they knew about him).
