Tamilnadu Government claims Padmanabhaswamy Temple Treasure
Not contented by the Mullaperiyar controversy, now
Tamilnadu Government is consulting legal experts seeking means and ways to approach Supreme Court to claim ownership of the treasure found in Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Thiruvananthapuram. This is in addition to the demand for a merger of Idukki district with the state.
Instead of pleading directly, the government is putting some NGOs as a front. History Research Organisation of Tamilnadu, Organisation for the rights of Hindu Living, Bala Prajapati Adigal etc are likely to move the Supreme Court in this regard.
The relevant historical documents for claiming the ownership of the temple are already gathered by the Research Group. They claim the entire ownership of the temple is vested with the Chola Dynasty whose kings were reigned from Thirunelveli since 1209. In 1458, Seventh Rama Varma ruled Travancore and restructured the temple and these informations are inscribed on the stones inside the temple. Further, the jewellery used in the temple are modeled in Tamil style and that the treasure contained even the money collected as tax levied on hair and breasts of Tamil women, they point out. A move to collect signatures from the people of Tamil Nadu in massive scale is also on the anvil.
