Let's assume you had an upper hand this round. Would you think that will be the case always? Remember - wars are dangerous and unpredictable. Just like Pak is no walk over to India, India is no walk over to China.

Modi spent enormous effort to improve relations with China. All that came to a naught. You guys walked in when it suited you.

Anyway - it is for you to assess if you gained or lost after all this.

For India, at a minimum the following are the "gains" / eye-openers:
a) It will be clear to Indian leadership that despite indulging China with $60B trade surplus etc, nothing can be expected back in behaviour of China.
b) India will seriously start alignment with Japan + Aus + USA + other countries. Is that in China's interest? Of Course, China will court Pak much more.
c) China has lost many markets in India [5G + other strategic sectors].
