What's new

SUPARCO is sleeping! Can someone wake it up?

The primary purpose of Space tech more or less is for defense if you consider USA,China or Indian efforts.

For SPARCO to grow or rise it needs both internal and external support.
In terms of internal support, other posters have already mentioned the industrial infrastructure, education etc.
What also matters is to grow fast you need good external relationships too where you can participate or colloborate with other countries and do a quick learning and then build an industrial environment out of it. ISRO didnt rise in alone, it rose to heights because 100s of other ancillary and subsidiaries were built up to make a complete infrastructure that could provide required resources to ISRO. What we see in media is just ISRO, where as in reality there are 100s of units which have worked who never got to see limelight, but the brand ISRO gets it all. And all this units had both internal and external support where required.

And as amardeep mishra said, without a industrial base it very very difficult to build components for space industry. You cannot buy everything for outside the country and assemble a launcher vehicle. Infact even if you can get all the parts, you will still need to build the assembly line and launch platform, building which itself is very challenging.

It is not only SUPARCO but all R &D Institutions in pak performed poor.
some of the advance defence technology in pak we see is due to China.

Suparco has wasted decades, but new generations of engineers usa chinese trained etc have joined Suparco and stuck due to lack of funds.

Suparco must start collaboration and cooperation with schools and universities for building strong base for future.

STOP all fund to dr. ata ur reman who wasted much on his own R&D and contributed almost nothing. channel all his funds and his likes to Suparco. suparco can develop fast on its own and produce good results subject to sufficient funding. also chinese cooperation will make it even faster.

Research papers are a rather tunnel visioned metric of measuring an organizations efficacy don't you think?

It is "one" of many metrics for measuring the productivity of a research organization. "Patent" can be another. As you've correctly pointed out, let's agree to disagree.

. .
With this Constitution and these short sighted iletrate people never think

SUPARCO should be closed until it do its required work at least what is a logic buying chairs and tables

Recently i came across a news of Pakistans Finanace Minster meeting SUPARCO officials.. look at the picture.. looks like suparco is run by military generals rather than Scientists and Engineers.

@SOHEIL

vikas is based off viking engine. However the current vikas engine that we use now are heavily modified from the original viking. FOR instance GSLV MK3 uses vikas in "clustered" configuration as an interim measure till semi cryogenic engine replaces it from main stage. I'm a control engineer pursuing my research in aerospace and have attended a lot of seminars. ISRO will actually replace the vikas engines very soon

I know & i said "origin" :-)

Analysing rockets & drones is my hobby !!! :crazy_pilot:

@SOHEIL ,@PaklovesTurkiye
Kindly read my comments here to know more about velocity and angle requirements at the time of burn out. To place anything meaningful in orbit we'd need much higher velocity of the order of 7-8kmps at the time of burnout.
And to achieve that kind of velocity with let's say a payload of 2tonnes,Pakistan would need a pretty solid rocket

I think 200-300 kg is enough for a recon sat in polar orbit !

. . .
Check out Ofeq series !

The life of such a design will be severely limited because a huge fraction of satellite mass is usually fuel that is used to adjust the attitude of satellite throughout its life. Did you know the only factor determining the life of satellite is the amount of fuel it carries for corrective maneuvers!
And lastly I couldn't find a link to ofeq satellite, maybe you can help?

I got the link of ofeq and As I predicted the life was 1-3 years!

Hi dear @JamD
I am sure the university you're in right now like the rest of the world believes in published literature. You see, I'm not averse to the idea of Pakistani designed shaheen, however with the kind of shady background and striking similarity of various Chinese solid rockets with earlier generations of shaheen do not really play in its favor. There is a "reason" why Pakistan "hides" or keeps even trivial things behind the veil of secrecy.
FOR God sake, do you really believe a country can design delivery systems with really shady track record of indigenous research and industrial base that is still at infancy?

There is hardly anyone from IITs that work for ISRO.most of them are either working for foreign MNCs, research giants in Bangalore,Hyderabad or Chennai

Exactly .
Perhaps ISRO cant offer the types of perks like that of MNC's

The primary purpose of Space tech more or less is for defense if you consider USA,China or Indian efforts.

Primary purpose would be ,should be always pure scientifiic oriented .
Defense and other civilian purpose are just a spin off this researches ,would be always a second priority

has it been given adequate fund?

~$60 Million, probably less now... due to the currency rate.

Its about time SUPARCO is handed over to SPD.

Pakistani Military Generals already run the place, perhaps they are the ones who are incompetent?

These are Russia, the United States, France, Japan, China, India, Israel, Iran and North Korea. These 9 countries have the ability to build and launch an orbit capable vehicle.

N. Korea is a bold statement...

You know what, you're correct, but majority of my Pakistani friends with no iota of knowledge of aerospace research will claim otherwise

You dont really need an in depth knowledge of rocket science as much in this case the politics and background of SUPACRO. The organization did have a program to for SLV and once the engineers began accomplishing prototypes the entire departments were shifted to Khan Labs or Nescom.

It was Suparco that designed Shaheen series, which was it's original purpose, and with modifications the series can be used as a SLV.

But developing or even modifying a SLV isn't a walk in the park, when Pakistan and India have an understanding of notifying the other of upcoming missile test, it's hardly capable of testing a SLV discreetly. And we're talking about a nation that keeps it's failures hush hush, imagine the field day just the Indian media would have.

@Viny 's #63 post is a good read.

In fact, I agree with the satellite building approach.

Anything to do with launch capability in Pakistan's vitiated scientific research atmosphere will irresistibly transmute into an exploration of weapon building. It is far better to concentrate the attention of students on satellite building, with far greater content of scientific research.

But they need a fundamental reform even if they want to create success in satellite building.
They should kick out military uniforms from Suparco and should install civilians in there.

Theoretically your statement is correct but not practically. Especially in case of India, Pak and China.
If we are going to open a thread we should have some correct knowledge abt that object which I suppose the person who opened that don't have. I should say no more I think.

Dont know about China or Pakistan .

But ISRO in India is totally under the control of PMO like that of DAE .
Totally governed by civilian institution .Some products and services have dual use but ISRO would always keep a distance from military and always reluctant in military use. .That is why you cant see a uniform in live telecast of our missions .They are not welcomed in there as one from military .
