What's new

Soon, India to have its own space shuttle

I am a staunch supporter of technology .. We are moving ahead in the ladder and thats a good sign..
But we should not start investing in the techs. we have very little/No use of..India does not need a space shuttle...

What you dont understand is the necessity of these technologies in the near future. Unless we develop a mature infrastructure now, we will always end up depending on others to meet our ends later. ISRO was first conceived to one up on the pakistanis.....not anymore though. ISRO is also involved in several projects that has helped millions inoffensive poor in India and abroad. This was the explanation given to me by an HOD of ISRO at my fathers alumini meeting.

Why Its of no use.?
When we invested in space science in 1940's and 50's we had much higher poverty rate and even less industries.
And today when we are talking of space suttel we are some where mid-industrilize country. Every tech. or industry development have so important immplimation and ad./dis-ad. With it, but it does not mean that we neglect those development just because we have poverty.
In mid-90's these remote sensing satellites launchad by India prove to be very use full and important in agreculture, desaster-rellif, and eviroment monitoring which help those poor farmers and fishermen in great way.
Similary this space suttle quest help in developing Indian industries thus indirectly increase employment and affecting those poor Indian masses.

i really don't want my nation to be in the back seats of the global arena.
in the beginning also,we had poverty, illiteracy and wars in rate much higher than today's.
but now we have one of the best space agencies in the world, capable of conducting commercial launches.

yes brother,we do need a space shuttle for:

1.to send a vyomonaut to space
2.eventually conduct repairs to space stationsor satelites
3.land on moon
4.make our additions to the international space station
5.to make our own space station

we do have a lots of money.and yes,we do have farmers who suicide on a daily basis.
rather than discouraging and cut-shorting the funds and projects of a succesfull organisation,we should utilise our money more wisely, cutting unneccesary expenses or simply reducing corruption.we should multi-task.

Good points, those who talk about money shouldn't be spend in space tech,I want them to remind that every 1rupee spent on ISRO,Returns as Rs 3..
We don't need to spend on social welfare more than we spend today..All we need is proper channel and distrubution of whatever money we allocate.Corruption eat 80paisa out of every 1rupee spent on poor.Better we erradicate corruption 1st then we might be in better postion to talk about social welfare..
1st stop special amenties to minorities like HAJ piligrimage and free education with eye on vote bank policy...

Correct. Even i think we are going too ahead in this Space exploration thing. No need to spend billions when we have other problems which require urgent funds.

I totally agree. India should first send someone to space first before worry about a reusable space vehicle. US space program starts out with Gemini, Mercury, Apolo, space labs and finally the shuttle program. Its not practical to send a space shuttle up there when India has no experience sending someone to circle the space a few times first.

That will be taken care off by 2013-14.
If i am not mistaken. India is planing to send a crue of 2 aronauts in space by that time.
And the traning and launcing facality will opend by 2012-13 in hydrabad.

HYDERABAD, India — India plans a manned
space mission by 2015, using indigenous
systems and technology, a top scientist said
Thursday.
That will be preceded by an unmanned moon
mission, Chandrayaan-1, in April 2008, G.
Madhavan Nair, chairman of state-run Indian
Space Research Organization, told reporters.
However, there was no immediate plan to send
a manned mission to the moon as that required
a very powerful rocket system, Nair said on the
sidelines of an international astronautical
conference being held in the southern Indian
city of Hyderabad.

Ever wonder why you so ignorant??This is India next step to send man into space. We already got another programe going to send 2Indians into space with the help of space capsule by 2015.Space shuttle is another step towards that.

Same here..You wont be able to understand the harsh realities of unfortunate regions where farmers are commiting suicide on daily basis just for the lack of supporting fund..I guess a shiny space shuttle is more important than the few thousand lives...

It's still futile to discuss technical aspects with you because you are debating for sake of just debating? Never mind.

Lack of funds for what? Providing free goodies to farmers? There is no lack of funds but poor distribution of funds and why Space exploration should suffer because Bureaucrat, MP or MLA elected in your constituency is an a$$hole (just an example) and do not know how to give good policy and its application to farmers.

ISRO is working on budget and projects provided and approved by Govt. of India. Provision in Budget are made available to them after a well thought off process by considering all budgetary constrains and including funds made available for reforms in Agriculture as well.

Sending Rocket in space and space exploration will reduce our hunger, poverty and farmers will not commit suicide. Is it hard to understand?

Agriculture is not a rocket science for us today because the expertise we already have is up to age. But rocket science is still a rocket science for us and we have to take such challenges to place our self at better spot of this age.

You can not neglect development in one field to boost other. All have to run parallel otherwise we will pay for the consequences, because of the challenges we will have and have already inherited, yes it is a Rat Race. Not the the one you have pre adjudged in your mind because Indian ''Shiny space shuttle'' in no way comparable to space shuttles (Russia and USA) nations already have (If you might have read the Indian program). Therefore the race is already lost or isn't there at all.

All developments compliment each other and effect each other negatively or positively.

If farmer of India can not help himself in 60 odd years then its a better option for him to quit agriculture and spare rest of us for sake of other development indexes to be with good ratings. Taxpayers have paid enough money to them since 60 years, rebating loans, free tractors, subsidies on fuel, seeds, pesticides so and so forth. People are sick of the slogans that farmer is god and 'anndatta' of India.

Open your eyes the world has moved to information age from medieval times.

For those who are saying that we should not spend more on Social welfare- I welcome them to pay a visit to rural Orrissa,Jharkhand,Bihar,Rajasthan and NE.. India is not Bangalore,Gurgaon,Pune,Noida and all the new shiny glass houses coming up.. our 60% population lives in villages and its our responsibility to provide them the bare minimum and if it requires additional fund then we must give it to them.. How long will the hungry ones keep sitting back and seeing the sky scrappers coming up every day... We, the fortunate ones have to take the additional responsibility of the people who are dying because of no availability of funds to fight drought in Rajasthan and Flood in Bihar..

And i stand by my point that India does not need a Space shuttle..We have other priorities..

Never have i claimed this..And yes i have read this because my brother used to work for ISRO for many years and i myself am associated with a company which is among the leaders of its area...

And people wonder why naxalism is on the rise..? Ask a farmer to quit farming after snatching land from him in the name of building canals in which there is no water..Dont provide him the necessary infrastructure to sell the production and force him to sell his crops at a price which is joke..
I guess building roads and cold storages is also their responsibility ..Bloody incompetent farmers...

Open your eyes the world has moved to information age from medieval times.

I have opened my eyes and so should you to the harsh realities.. India does not only live in the gated communities..It lives in the million so slum dwellers and people sleeping on footpath..We should wake the F up before its too late..

Good news. Term "Vyomanaut" Reminds "Captain Vyom" series.

Really ..? I dont see the no.s of suicides decreasing with every successful PSLV launch or, increasing with every unsuccessful GSLV launch.. Neither have i seen the hungry people dancing to the tunes of "Jai ho" with the successful launch of satellites..

Agriculture is not a rocket science for us today because the expertise we already have is up to age.

Really ..? You need to learn a LOT about modern farming...Try google for starters...

All developments compliment each other and effect each other negatively or positively.

Thats where a country priorities its policy... For me ~600 mill. people below poverty line , thousands of farmers committing suicide , Devastating Flood every year in Biahr,NE , Drought in Rajsthan and absence of infrastructure in rural India is top priority.. For some its Space shuttle..
I feel embarrassed when some one tells me that my country has more poor than whole Africa.. May be i should inform them about the space shuttle my country is building..

2015 is only 4 years away. Is there any news about India selected its first batch of astronauts?

Before the 2nd step, India must solidify the first step. This indeed is putting the horse before the cart.
