Some Superstitions in Pakistan

There is NO superstition in Islam.

Islam does NOT advocate such things

Rather the Last Prophet Muahammad (PBUH) had eliminated many superstitions which were remains of kufer

Maybe not these superstitions but other superstitions can be interpreted to be part of Islam.

Like belief in Jinns and Black Magic.
People are still prosecuted for witchcraft in some countries.

Well, I used to believe in that Scissor thingy and not to move over a baby!
I though have a believe in evil eyes!

Go and break all the glasses, it will make you happy!

Here is No.2........

Shaving causes hair to grow back faster or courser.

No, it does not. This popular notion was disproved during the early 1930's i guess, and now more recent studies showed/confirmed that shaving has no effect on the hair growth or regrowth.
When the shaved hair grow ,it lacks the fine taper seen at the end of unshaven hair, making it appear courser. And the fact that it hasn't been exposed to light may make it seem darker than other hairs.I still remember during my early teens barber used to tell me,"shaving your hairs will make it thicker and more dense."

Yup i second that Islam doesn't support any.
Jin/Angels/Souls all mentioned in Quran.Plus now a days there is a lot of talk about the dark energy surrounding the universe......and people don't know much about it ,how it bring about changes and support certain phenomenon is yet not discovered, but it's an immense force....who knows what our poor minds think about as dark energy is infact something we are already told about.:)

Goodday!

dark energy and dark matter is a hypothosis =o and sure like everything else like the big bang is mention in the koran.

i have never beleived in any superstition as far as islam and superstiontion go i rather not get into that disscusion speicaly on this fourm :P.

I have read some where- a sneeze restarts the human body i.e it stops for a brief moment and starts again-

I think thats why our Prophet has said to say- Alhamdolillah- meaning Thanks God- after a sneeze-

Religion and superstition?? can they be un-tied....nopes....

lol you dirty minded

Believing in Jinns is more like believing in Aliens. The science never rejected that the aliens do not exist. Who knows those aliens that you say we call them as Jinn?

or may be one of the creature among those Aliens would be similar to Jinn's that was quoted in the Holy Qur'an

Religion and superstition?? can they be un-tied....nopes....

go to Arab countries, I hardly see anybody believing in superstitions

Only Pakistani/South Asian believes in superstitions because they were heavily influenced by the culture of other religions or were converted Muslims and had not abandoned all the habits completely. There is no room for superstitions in Islam.... they were never tied together so there is no need to untie them

with no disrespect intended to anybody

LoL , I had a superstition about my browser some years back.

That bookmarking every web page or website of your interest slows down your browser.(knew nothing about it.)

A thought that used to arise whenever i add sth in bookmarks.......:D(couldn't resist sharing it.)

But now i have almost a thousand pages in my bookmarks list ,segregated in to groups.Experience told me that it's just a whim. And i'm no more superstitious about it.:coffee:

hehe yeh things like this happend with me back in jeddah where i grew up for i use to first take a deep breath by pulling the omen of me or other & blow it away some time even 3 time or even circulate my hand to ward of omen you know the type of thought of sometime bad omen etc plus sometime if watchng tv/vcr,books etc a thought used to come if a news on cancer or aids etc show it might happen man scary as hell but fought it out no more of it any anymore Allahumdulilah a dua helped me out book name fortification of the Prophet (p.b.u.h)
"oh Allah there is no omen but there is relaince in you there is no good other then your good & there is no other god besides you" or maybe its written "& there is none worthy of worship but you"
trust me it works
