Should and can Turkey pursue nuclear weapons threshold status for more independence?

Can Turkey become a nuclear threshold state while fending off western pressure?

USA's strength confuses folks, no blame.
If Shah of Iran had remained in power. If Iran had stayed central to US strategic alliance. By now Iran would have been a economic/military power to be reckoned in the region and would have dwarfed everybody including Turkey. Since being a American ally would have constructed Iran/Turkish axis by now [read CENTO] and we would have seen a close Turko-Persian economic/industrial order emerging which would as a aggregate have had enough economic pull to create centrifugal force that would have tied Pakistan in as well as smaller neighbouring countries. It would have formed a block.

But alas that was and never will. Turkey has swung over to Europe. Pakistan Sinosphere. And Iran sat in middle dreaming of Al-Quds and "marge Amrika" until the oiul runs out. What a freakin tragedy.

Sometimes alliance/appeasement with even the devil is needed. Ask the Chinese.

whats with Bangla bashing?
I am old timer. I nurse my friends close and my enemies far. Love hard and hate hard. 1971 lives on. The lowest form of human is traitor. And that is a Bangla.

I think you seriously overlook one fact. Turkey is Istanbul/Marmara region. This region dominates South Eastern Europe. Thus Turkey has and will be a European actor. It will main part of evolving architecture in Europe. The Turks began their historical march to the West thousand years ago from Cental Asia. Now they have reached their destination. The West.

Therefore they will not sever their ties from Europe. Indeed these will get stronger.
Well those are my suggestions and I believe someone in Turkey is also thinking on the similar lines.

Hopefully, this time under better conditions more favorable to Turkey!!! Anyway, countries like Turkey and Pak are central powers; hence, multiple unique bonds need to be simultaneously maintained....

Agreed. Turkey [Anatolia] is probably one of the most strategic countries on earth followed by Pakistan [Indus] and both have been fulcrums of history.

countries like Turkey and Pak are central powers
And Iran by playing the radical Islamic card has ended separating both. Iran should have been the bridge between both creating a formidable block but instead it has become a under seige barrier that acts like a huge wall between Turk/Pak.

Nothing new!!! It's been historically like that!!! Anyway, folks do what they have/need to do....

Yup, fixed emotions, the notable strength and weakness of the subcontinent's natives, exploited by all and sundry for millennia.

They can just walk into US military bases in Turkey and take the nukes. Why waste resources building a capability from ground up.

No you won't, you'll prefer to find another excuse, just as "I-Ran" serves as one for you today. Until you're willing to peer honestly into your own navel, you're allergic to eating humble pie.

And it's not just you. Think of all the problems Pakistan has had with clashing political parties and personalities for decades, to the point that periods of military rule came as an emotional relief. The fact that there was a peaceful transition of civilian power from PPP to PMLN may be a measure of progress, but the fact is that the military holds so much power that the personality stakes aren't as meaningful as they used to be - and Pakistan's parliament likes it that way. Sort of how power slipped from the Roman Senate into the hands of appointed or self-appointed caesars, I suppose.

As I mentioned earlier, the stubbornness is a cultural (or racial) characteristic noted for centuries. The conquering Arabs severely taxed their non-Muslim subjects due to their continued stubbornness. The Brits took advantage of it in recruiting India's "martial" races. The Gulf Arabs today work to shape Pakistani education to provide themselves with a pool of cheap labor and loyal mercenaries.

The power in today's world order is not muscle but brain.

Whoever invests in the education, technology, science is the superpower in the world in any respects including defence.

That is why the west is the ''master'' in the world, and the Mullahs and other Islam abusers are the cancer and tumor in the hearts and minds of muslims as servants of the ''master''s order, like the British-founded ''Muslim Brotherhood''.

A single gunshot from an ignoramus can suffice to extinguish the most gifted intellectual. Power, or the prospect of power, in the hands of supremacists can turn them, like Zia and Yahya, from obedient servants into dictators and destroyers. The "cancer and tumor" can grow until the host is extinguished: then, everything dies.

Point is Turkey will not be able to get nuclear weapons as long it is signatory to NPT.

End of discussion. And Turkey will not be pulling out of NPT anytime soon.

Nothing wrong with Mullahs.

People also have to be educated in mathematics, sciences, and social sciences as well.

Being educated in religion is important, but it is also important to be educated in the worldly matters as well!

Please don't talk garbage. Zia ul Haq was a great Pakistani leader.
He made mistakes like anyone else did, but overall he did what the Pakistani people wanted.
