No, because in 2006 it didn't even spot or try to engage the Iranian Anti-ship missile that hit the Saar-5 Corvette.

Because it was switched off and the ship was very near to the shore! :flame:

Amazing ship. I am in love all over again. The clutter on top of superstructure is way less when compared to the Talwars :). Also notice the use of revathi as secondary volume search radar :)! Also observe the mechanism for heli securing :)!

Here is some labeling I did.

Compare Shivalik with Talwar from top....

Shivalik

Talwar

Look at the differences. Apart from being bigger the Shivalik has lots more stealth features. The funnel is covered and special techniques were used to reduce heat signature. Talwar mainly depends on frontal stealth measures while Shivalik has some side RCS reduction measures as well. The eelectronic warfare also very much different. Look at the component on the back side of Fregat radar.

Some more previous Shivalik interior pics.....

No body can deny that the Indian Navy are way ahead of both the Army & Air force when it come to indengious home made weapons.

That looks awesome

I am amazed at how good this ship looks. The satcoms at the back of the ship can be seen clearly as well.

here are some of the system close ups from other ships being used on shivalik:

. . .

I am not sure but they are too small to be satcom terminals. Those may be EW systems. We have seen Indian army satcom terminals they were much bigger dish type antennas. BTW you may be right as well!

My choice....

Economic and military mights of India.... :victory:

Could be. Though most satcom masts do look like those housings!

I think you are right. Actually I was expecting something more than just satcom from Indian navy. Does they allow fast data transfer?

satcom provides very fast data transfer speeds by its very nature. I am not sure which company has supplied the equipment for shivaliks but selex was the contractor for the delhi class (P-15) ships. I would expect these to be working in conjunction with indian communication satellites.

check these out:

So it is not clear to me as to who is the vendor for shivalik. I am providing a link to a pdf datasheet which provides some technical information regarding the commercial satcom equipments from selex. The military systems would be much more capable ofcourse!

link: http://www.selexmarine.com/products/sailor/pdf/Sailor_Fleet77_and_Fleet55.pdf

Added later:: Got it!

The Shivalik has the scanti scansat. The civilian version (scansat-mini M) has the following specs:

•Extremely compact and low cost maritime satellite telephone for worldwide transmission of telephone calls, fax prints, and data or e-mail messages.
•Handset, fax/2-wire RJ-11 phone port and Hayes compatible 2.4 kbps data port each with individual telephone numbers.
•The worlds smallest automatic 2-way maritime satellite tracking antenna weighing only 2.2 kg.
•Secure and tailored operation via built-in SIMM card reader
•Easy optional below-deck transceiver unit, with separate handset/cradle unit for conveniently located installation.
•Optional STU-IIB/STU=III and picture transmission software packages.

ins mumbai on the other hands has the equivalent sailor satcom system.
