Alarabiya released a new video from the warship clearly shows that attack was conducted by a speedy suicide boat cruising over the horizon right into the rear of the warship.

Well, it clearly doesn't to me and from the footage I can safely say it's a speed boat that made little scratches in the stern of warship and it'll be repainted again.

There are different sizes of boats and that is not a submarine or torpedo, especially moving that fast and creating that much wake at the end of the video. It was still moving fast in my eyes. Could be the Saudis were sleeping, remember the USS Cole.

IMHO,

1) 100% not an AshM attack as was initially talked about, the incoming "bogey" is moving much too slow for that.
2) Likewise, I think any talk of this being a torpedo is equally incorrect. While the speed is about right, a standard torpedoes do NOT create that much surface disturbance (if any at all).
3) Perhaps a VA-111/Hoot? The surface disturbance is more fitting but the speed is all wrong. While there is only video available of this weapon in use, it's good enough to show us the incredible speed the VA-111/Hoot has, and that the "bogey" that hit the Saudi vessel is going far too slow for that.

So where does that leave us? As much as I hate to say this, the Saudi's original story of a "suicide boat" shouldn't be dismissed out of hand.

The wake being given off by the "bogey" is far too large for anything EXCEPT an object moving across the surface of the water or partially beneath it (aka look at the wakes surfaced submarines make). The focal point of this wake is definitely small and fairly narrow. The wakes are very reminiscent of the kind you see produced by a speed boat.

So why can't we clearly see a boat? Depending on its size/color, the low-quality of the video could make it difficult to make out.

Either way, whatever hit them, it wasn't an AshM or a torpedo (VA-111 or a more standard design). That doesn't leave a lot of possibilities.

On an unrelated note, the helicopter on the Saudi frigate is not Chinese, but a French-built Dauphin, for which the Chinese Z-9 is a derivative of.

Obviously it was an old version of Russian torpedo. Look at Iranian torpedo ::: Gives No chance to the hostile ships. It's destructive power is equal with Hoot.

Definitely not a Hoot nor a suicide boat. Hoot would tear through the hull and we should be able to see the suicide boat if it was a boat.

It is probably a makeshift sort of weapon that Yemenis came up with. Maybe it was a jetski that was armed with a small payload and its driver jumped out before it hit? Because I don't see any driver either but a Jetski would produce waves like that and its speed would kind of be the same.

Looks like the stern sonar deck and helicopter forward of that were damaged. No real visual evidence of serious structural damage to hull of superstructure.

It was not gunship helo on this ship. It was basic Chinese S&R helo.

No. Shkval would have been underwater, not at the surface (no wake of the size seen in vid) and MUCH faster (Launch speed: 93 km/h; maximum speed: in excess of 370 km/h). Also, the 210 kg conventional warhead would have torn up the entire stern.
