The Houthi movement in Yemen has issued a stern warning of retaliation following a series of U.S. airstrikes that resulted in significant casualties and damage to military and strategic sites. This escalation comes in the wake of continued Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, which prompted the U.S. military action.

According to Houthi-run media, the death toll from the U.S. airstrikes has reached at least 24 people, with 13 fatalities reported in Sanaa, Yemen's capital, and 11 in Saada. These figures represent an increase from earlier reports, which initially cited nine civilian deaths, strikes ordered by US President Donald Trump, targeted various Houthi controlled assets, including radars, missile launchers and drone facilities.

The Houthi political bureau has condemned the U.S operation, labeling it a "war crime." In response to this perceived aggression, they have vowed to escalate their actions, a statement from the Houthi armed forces declared, "Our Yemeni armed forces are fully prepared to respond to escalation with escalation." This rhetoric suggests that the conflict may intensify in the coming days or weeks.

President Trump justified the military action by citing the Houthis "unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence and terrorism" against American and other vessels in the region, strikes were aimed at restoring international shipping routes in the Red Sea, which have been disrupted for months due to Houthi attacks.

American operation described as the most significant military engagement of Trump's second term, also serves as a warning to Iran, the primary backer of the Houthi movement. Trump has threatened to hold Iran "completely accountable" if it poses a threat to the United States, indicating a willingness to expand the conflict if deemed necessary.

As tensions escalate, the international community remains on high alert, the potential for further military action and retaliatory strikes from the Houthis could have significant implications for regional stability and global shipping routes, the situation in Yemen continues to evolve rapidly, with both sides seemingly prepared for continued conflict.
