But Still Egypt has the largest military in the Arab world

The Israeli army merkava tank is far better then the current abrams used by Egypt , Egypt has corruption in it's military if they fix that and have a better budget no doubt they will have a better Military then the gulf states.

Why not go for the KF-X with Indonesia amd south Korea ? I hear turkey might be apart of it ? Theres always the Chinese J-20 and the Chinese are building 2 other 5 gen kick *** fighters. Saudi's could go for that.

We certainly didn’t see the Egyptians at their best in Arab Israeli Wars..

Mostly downgraded Abram tanks, 200 f-16s ok a few others however most of their air force has old fighters from the 60's and 70's , they could not survive without the 2 billion Aid, Saudi's got better equipment then Egypt.

Absolutely Saudis have a lot of money they can burn in defence purchases!

I’m just surprized they didn’t bother for F16s or USA not kind enough to sell them.

Saudia need to do what Egypt did long time ago , buy from different vendors don't put all your eggs in one basket

300 Sukhois from Russia would do wonders for Saudi National Interest plus its a good thing to step away from US and not depend too much from an ally that bad mouths you once they are in USA soil and when with you pretends to be your friend

If anything the delay is blessing in disguise

Now we are improving our training, officers are only promoted and recruited on manners of merit and not because he knows somebody and any one caught doing it gets 2-5 years in jail and corruption regarding the military had a big crackdown and many arrests were made (too many infact).

Even our doctrine was rewritten in 2006.

But what prevented Saudis from making major reforms in their government/Armed Forces before 2006?

I think its a bit far fetched to say they make "the best soldiers in the world", maybe they were capable soldiers during the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) but so far all Arab/Muslim armies faced defeat in the 21st century and have yet to win any major war against an adversary.

Since Egyptians also speak Arabic i wonder why Saudis don't hire them for labor in GCC's instead of importing South Asians who can't speak the native language and understand the culture?

We wanted 200 block 60 F-16s the same the UAE is using but the US said "It would ruin the military balance in the region" so we went for the Typhoon instead.
