Saudi Arabia King Orders New Expansion Of Prophet’s Mosque

I understand that taller apartments need to be build to accommodate the huge numbers that arrive in Mekkah but does it really have to be right next to the Kabaa? I find the the whole idea of a simple yet beautiful structure like the Kabaa being put next to a huge skyscraper rather disturbing.

.
Makka and Medina are going through massive expansion and development projects to accommodate the growing numbers of Pilgrims. Those who are against this can do nothing but only moan via internet forums. I hope KSA demolish all historical tombs and buildings that some people come to worship rather than performing pilgrimage at Al-Haram mosque. Well done KSA...

.
the tall building Abraj Al Bait is a five star hotal, now if its a necessary accommodation then it must be a basic one and not a five star hotal right?? not every hajji can afford a hajj with five star hotel accomodation right??

It was built at the same place as the former Ajyad Fortress, an old fort of the Ottoman epoch dating from the 18th century and which was destroyed in 2002 by the Saudi government in order to begin the building work, sparking global outcry.

the objection is valid, i dont think that people come to makkah for honeymoon, it is a religious place where people come to pray, turning mekkah into las vagas is like turning vetican city into las vagas, the five star luxury hotels just on the door step of one the holiest sites is just pure foolishness, sheikhs are just wanting to generate income, to make place like mekkah a business place
ese the sanctity of the holy sites must be maintained, they can build dubai like city some few miles away from them

look at this video

you guys are simply belittling mekkah and its sanctity with such commercialisation

the historical places surrounded Harm are not part of the religion nor holy sites to be worship so you guys need to get over it.
some people are complaining when they have never been to Makkah, its not 700 hundred years back anymore its 2012. Makkah receives around 3,000,000 million pilgrims during hajj time so where they should stay, on street?!
how could they preform their practice easily, how could they get their daily needs ! how could the move from point to another and so on. so the expansion is a necessary work that should be done. islam is a religion of modernity and not stone ages, these building are facilitating pilgrims during their stay and will help accommodating huge number of pilgrims annually in both Makkah and Madina. the increasing in number of pilgrims has raised many demand for the expansion. plus that we are building our country for the muslims and have not asked anyone for help all it matters is that muslims perform their obligations and the reason of being there in an easy satisfying way and not to involve wether should we build or not as long as it doesn't contradict with the religion. those projects are Waqf, don't belong to anyone and the money that comes out goes back again to the benefit of the two holy mosque and pilgrims.
take a look at these pictures and tell me how would you deal with such crowds.

To the Pakistanis here who are voicing their concerns for this developments which KSA is executing for the easiness of the pilgrims and that they do their pilgrimage with all ease and peace of mind, please check at what the Pakistani officials do for the comfort and peace of mind of the Pakistani Pilgrims?

They blackmail the hajis

And also when Saudi Officials heard about it they ordered that the fees that Saudi Arabia took be refunded back to them, what did Pakistani officials do?

.
Has there been any proper and creative urban/city planning for Makkah and Madina? Can Saudi members share any of those plans?

In contemporary urban and city planning accommodation can go horizontally even within hilly surroundings of Makkah all the while keeping all historic and holy sites intact. And amount of money Saudi govt spending for development of these holy sites could get much better results.

In fact building these towers around holy sites are putting up permanent barrier towards holy sites, going to obstruct free movements of people in and out of holy sites and will limit future expansion of holy sites.

Clock towers with its height was really uncalled for and five star accommodation actually defeat the real purpose of the holy pilgrimage. We should be asking if we want five star luxury there are hundred other places to go, are Makkah and Madina places for luxury?

Could anyone from SA confirm if the following is true?

Saudi Arabia to raze Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) tomb to build larger mosque
Saudi Arabia to raze Prophet Mohammed

.
I have a question .... The Makkah Haram Toilet is located where Abu Jahal's house once was.

Why don't people object to that ?

After all Abu Jahal was large figure of history ( if it is ONLY history people are after ).

. .
I dont understand why SOme people here in the forum have problem with whatever S.Arabia is doing be it good or bad....

custodian: a person who cleans, maintains, provides security and initiates repairs or makes minor repairs to buildings.

Saudi Arabia hold the holy sites of Islam in trust for all Muslims, should everyone not have a right to an opinion on they way they are cared for?

There is not a lot of room for opinion .... Islam you know !

Islam itself does not suggest or encourage the concept of "holy shrines" etc ...
The few listed places are

1. Kaaba,
2. The Harams
3. Saffa & Marwa
4. Dome of the rock @ Jerusalem.

.
Saudi's real plane is to destroying prophet's mosque ....
.......

and who is the architect of this plane .... probably some freemason !!!

Saudi Arabia should expand but at the same time should try to safe older sights from destruction so people can have view of history from their own eyes

.
Seeing the comments it appears people don't know what do they want?? These Expansions are mainly to allow the accommodation of more Pilgrims and for raising the quota each country gets.

So for instance these expansions will allow to bring more than Double the number of Pakistani pilgrims permits than now giving more people a chance to do their rights.

So you ask yourself are those expansions good or bad??

BAD.... more pilgrims mean more corruption for our ministers :D....

On serious note. I support the expansion hope i'll visit when its done.

Prince Khaled Al-Faisal announces details of King Abdullah 's project for the reconstruction of Mecca

22 August 2011

JEDDAH —
Pre-construction planning has officially started on the King Abdullah Project for the Development of Makkah, it was announced on Saturday by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region.

Construction work will begin in September , he added.

This comes a day after the launch of the Makkah Clock and the laying of the foundation stone for the largest-ever expansion of the Grand Mosque.

The massive King Abdullah Project for the Development of Makkah includes the development of unplanned residential areas, planning and managing urban development, establishing a ring road network, light rails, public transportation and organized taxi systems and pedestrian walkways in Makkah and the Holy Sites.

Prince Khaled, who is also President of the Commission for the Development of Makkah, that supervises the project, instructed the project team to reduce the planned deadline for the project from six years to between four and five years. He described the project as one of national importance.

Living and working in Makkah will be greatly improved after the project is completed, said Prince Khaled. He said the project is based on the King's instructions to improve services for pilgrims and visitors. “We need to have world-class organization and services, otherwise our work will be a waste of time and money. This we will not allow,” said Prince Khaled.

The “development revolution” of Makkah is based on the state's regulations, five-year plans, and regional development plans, said Prince Khaled.

A study to build many floors for Tawaf (circumambulation) around the Ka'ba, will be submitted to the King, he said.

Meanwhile, the holy Makkah Municipality is pushing ahead with its plans to develop a new urban mass rail transit system for the city. Makkah faces significant congestion and transportation challenges. It is the focal point of the Haj, the Islamic pilgrimage, which attracts millions of visitors to the city every year.

The city's own population is also growing rapidly and is estimated to double to three million by 2035. Urban development is further restricted by Makkah's topography, with several significant hills constricting movement to key corridors. The Makkah Mass Rail Transit project (MMRT) is a key aspect of the municipality's strategy to address these growth challenges and the current public transport deficit.

MMRT project will involve the construction of four new rail lines. The lines will be constructed in stages. Stage 1 will include the construction of sections of lines “B” and “C”.

Line “B” section will be 10 km long, with 6 new stations and will mainly be underground. It will be an extension of the existing Al Masha'er Al Muqaddisa rail line.
