Sahara India seeks cooperation from Bashundhara

DHAKA: Chairman of Sahara India Pariwar, a giant business conglomerate of India, Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara sought cooperation from Bangladeshi giant conglomerate company Bashundhara Group (BG) in its initiation of investment in housing sector of Bangladesh.
He said, “Sahara Group wants to work in cooperation with Bangladeshi developers, not in competition.”
Subrata Roy came up with the statement when he met Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan in city’s Ruposhi Bangla Hotel on Friday.
On the other hand, BG Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said, “Sahara Group could come up with a big investment in Bangladesh if entrepreneurs of both government and nongovernment sectors cooperate them.”
It will meet almost every housing demand of the people in the country as a renowned developer company is investing in this sector, he added.
At the time, Sahara Group chairman listened to the experience that Bashundhara Group gathered in different housing projects.
BG chairman promised Subrata Roy of all kind of cooperation and thanked him for visiting Bangladesh.
When Sahara India chairman commented that land price is high in Bangladesh, he said, “Price of land in some specific areas are high, but in most other areas of the country is comparatively low.
Among others, strategic management group chief of Sahara Subrata Bhattacharya, chief of corporate communication department Rajib Chakrabarti, executive director of Bashundhara Group Colonel (retd) Khandaker Abdul Waheed and some other high-up officials of both groups were present in the meeting.
Earlier on Tuesday, Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Worker and Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar arrived in Dhaka on a three-day office visit.
Subrata Roy Sahara established Sahara India Pariwar in 1978. It is a major business conglomerate in India with operations in multiple sectors, including financial services, life insurance, mutual funds, housing finance, print and television news media, entertainment channels, cinema production, healthcare, sports, and information technology.
The group has 4,163 establishments across India serving over 7.10 crore customers with over 1 million workers.
Sahara is based upon the ethos of a family (the reason why the group is called a ‘Pariwar’--family, in Hindi) and was termed by the Time magazine as ‘the second largest employer in India after the Indian Railways’.

DHAKA: Sahara India Pariwar started it’s journey in Bangladesh on Friday through launching Sahara Matribhumi Development Corporation.
Sheikh Fazle Hossain Fahim was made the director of the company.
Company Chairman Subrata Roy Sahara came up with the disclosure at a press conference at Ruposhi Bangla hotel at about 11 am.
The company will invest $130 million initially in different sectors including new Dhaka project, Township Business, Infrastructure development, education, health and tourism.
The investment will increase gradually.
Besides, Sahara Matribhumi Pariwar is likely to get sponsorship of Bangladesh National Cricket Team, Subrata Roy Sahara informed the reporters.
