Fifth-generation strategic subs being designed for Russian Navy - commander
MOSCOW. Dec 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Strategic submarines which will outmatch the brand new subs currently in use by the Russian Navy are already being designed, Navy Commander Adm. Vladimir Korolyov said.

"Conceptual designing and development of fifth-generation submarines, which will be even more efficient, have begun. They will employ new technologies and engineering solutions," the commander said in his greetings to the staff of the Sevmash shipyards in Severodvinsk, where the keel of the Knyaz Pozharsky Project Borei-A strategic nuclear-powered missile carrying submarine was laid on Friday.

Eight Project 995 and 995A Borei nuclear-powered submarines, each of which is capable of carrying 16 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles, will be delivered to the Russian Navy by 2020.

The Knyaz Pozharsky will be the eighth Project Borei submarine overall and the fifth Project Borei-A submarine. Submarines of this series armed with Bulava missiles will comprise the foundation of the naval component of the Russian strategic nuclear forces in the forthcoming decades.

As of today, Sevmash (a unit of United Shipbuilding Corporation based in Severodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk region) has supplied three Borei subs to the Navy. The Yury Dolgoruky has joined the Northern Fleet, while the Pacific Fleet operates the Alexander Nevsky and the Vladimir Monomakh. There are plans to supply the Knyaz Vladimir to the Northern Fleet.

Four Project Borei-A subs are under construction at Sevmash in different degrees of readiness, the Russian Defense Ministry said. These are the Knyaz Vladimir (the lead Project Borei-A submarine, the keel of which was laid on July 30, 2012), the Knyaz Oleg (the keel was laid on July 27, 2014), the Generalissimo Suvorov (the keel was laid on December 26, 2014) and the Emperor Alexander III (the keel was laid on December 18, 2014). R30 3M30 Bulava (also known as RSM-56 in international treaties, NATO code name SS-NX-30) is Russia's newest three-stage solid-fuel missile designed for arming Project Borei subs. The missile is capable of carrying multiple hypersonic individually targeted nuclear warheads. It will become the foundation of the prospective group of Russian strategic nuclear forces in the period through 2040-2045.

The shipbuilding company Zvyozdochka said that Russian missile cruiser, Marshal Ustinov, is back in service after five years of extensive repairs.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A Russian missile cruiser, Marshal Ustinov, is back in service after five years of extensive repairs, the shipbuilding company Zvyozdochka responsible for the works said Monday. "The ship repairs center Zvyozdochka has completed factory repair works at the 1164 Atlant-project [Slava class] Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser," the company said in a statement.

The cruiser left the Zvyozdochka shipyard last Saturday and headed for the city of Severomorsk, the home base of Russia’s Northern Fleet. During five years in the dock the warship went through a hull reconstruction and had many of its internal engines, including propulsion, repaired. Its sensors and electronic warfare systems were replaced with digital equivalents.

The Marshal Ustinov was launched in 1982 and commissioned with the Russian Northern Fleet in 1986. Slava-class cruisers were designed as surface strike ships with some anti-air and ASW capability and have a primary armament of sixteen SS-N-12 Sandbox nuclear-capable supersonic anti-ship missiles.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's navy will resume testing the new Admiral Makarov frigate, which is the latest project 11356 Admiral Grigorovich-class vessel, after New Year's holidays are over, Baltic Fleet spokesman Roman Martov said Tuesday.

"As soon as New Year's and Christmas celebrations are over, state trials of the latest project 11356 frigate Admiral Makarov will continue. Speed and maneuverability trials of the ship will take place, its weapons and aviation complex will be tested," Martov told reporters.

The ship's propulsion properties will also be tested alongside its propulsion plant and other vessel systems, he added, noting that the propulsion, steering, communication, navigation and mooring systems will be focused on in particular.

Trials of Russia's first Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate were successfully completed in the Barents Sea in late 2015. The frigates, displacing 3,850 tons, are designed for anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare as well as for air defense missions, operating both independently or as part of convoys and naval task forces.

Admiral Makarov was laid down in early 2012 in Kaliningrad and was launched in 2015 to commence sea trials. The vessel is set to become the third Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate after Admiral Essen, which was commissioned in June.

MOSCOW, January 23. /TASS/. The fourth Project Yasen-M multipurpose nuclear submarine Krasnoyarsk has completed hydraulic tests of the pressure hull and its structures, the Sevmash Shipyard, the submarine’s manufacturer, told journalists.

"A major construction stage - the hydraulic tests of the strong hull and its elements - has been completed on the nuclear submarine Krasnoyarsk. The submarine has successfully passed the tightness test and its hull has withstood the characteristics laid out by the designer. Further planned work is ongoing to prepare the hull for insulation and assembly works," the Sevmash Shipyard press office said.

The Krasnoyarsk is the fourth multipurpose nuclear-powered submarine in the Yasen-class series (Project 885) designed by the St. Petersburg-based Marine Engineering Design Bureau Malakhit. The submarine was laid out in 2014. Overall, five submarines of this project are under construction at the Sevmash Shipyard in Severodvinsk in north Russia.

The first Project 885 nuclear submarine Severodvinsk was delivered to the Russian Navy on June 17, 2014 and underwent operational evaluation until the spring of 2016. The other submarines are being built under the improved Yasen-M project.
