Russia’s naval flotilla in the Caspian sea is in the process of a fundamental upgrade, expected to increase the share of the newest combat ships and boats to 90% by 2020. The Caspian Flotilla was created in November 1722 by the order of Peter the Great. The fleet consists of 50 ships, including its flagship Gepard-class frigate Tatarstan and also second frigate Dagestan, three Buyan-class corvettes and four small-size gunships. The fleet's home base is located in Astrakhan. The ships of Russia’s naval flotilla in the Caspian — a land-locked sea washing the shores of four other countries — in this photo gallery.
