Russia has largest cargo and troop airlift plane in the world, bigger even than USAF C-5B

Everyone's comments are welcome. My posting of a unique one of a kind plane was just that, a unique plane of immense size.

On a smaller scale, the USAF has ended production of the C-17 short landing and take off cargo and troop carrier, whose "need justification team" I sat on at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio back in the 1980s as a reserve Colonel, USAF.

The USAF "work horse" remains the C-130 for short landing and take off. The C-130 also can do rolling drops still airborne of equipment on skids/pallets for immediate ground deployment and use.

Pakistan has a number of practical use C-130s in it's PAF inventory. I am so old I recall while stationed in Pakistan (at the old US Embassy in Karachi) the PAF flying early model C-130 Bs and Cs.

Why should it? The main reason why soviet union died was because it had too many projects that were unnecessary. The entire Buran project was gigantic waste of money.

Unlike NATO, Russia does not provide conquests on the other side of the planet. Therefore the task of the Ministry of Defence - to ensure the safety of the state.

There should have been a higher aim for a country like Russia. How many Utility&Cargo aicraft does Rusky air force operate?

I do not know the exact amount - just near 160 aircrafts. But we do not fight for 20,000 miles from home. We do not need so many planes as USA.
Production of IL-76 has restored. If all goes well, will soon be restored production of An-124.

They bankrupt due stupid communist policy. If this project is waste of money then what about F-22 project of US.

If you can afford it. The problem with Sovietunion was senseless mega projects. Best example for this madness was the russian supersonic airplane Tu 144. We europeans build the Concorde and the soviets wanted a supersonic aircraft too.

At the end you had two technological wonders, Concorde and the TU-144 but a problem occured. The supersonic market was a luxury market. Concorde was profitable only on special routes. London - New York, Bahamas, Paris - New York. The TU-144 simply had only one destination: moscow - alma ata. The amount of rich people who want go Alma Ata is...zero. So while Concorde served 27 years and made a profit the russian TU-144 was stopped after just 100 flights. 16 TU-144 build, billions put into R&D. And for what? Nothing.

Same goes for Buran. Nobody denie that Buran is masterwork. But it did only one time enter space and was then stored...never fly again.
