Russia clears $11.38 billion for nuclear power plant in Bangladesh

Not to forget that after her, her children can rule BD............

BD should ban this Democrazy & should become a Monarchy under Queen Sheikh Hasina I.

I am sure that she will turn out to be Queen Victoria of BD!!!!

Well that is what happened last time. She won unopposed because the opposition was too scared to fight her, Queen Hasina indeed!

India paid 2.6 billion for the two 1000 MW reactors to Russia. Why BD paying way more? Steel prices are way down too.
We took latest tech. Plus all the extra cost for protection from various climatic disasters.

I think they are also counting the compensation to the people who will be removed in lakhs so that land can be provided for the reactor...........BD is one of the most massively populated regions.
The land was vacant since Pakistan era for a nuke plant.

Why dont you get ship based nuclear power plants from China.. it will be safe and away from population..

I am sure we don't want our fish population to be radiated from any future disaster. (Bengali stereotypes :P)

Have a guess. Pranab Mukharjee, Putin, SHW & family - all facilitated / helped in this project. And nothin is free in this cruel world.

Geographical differences, training for the officials, inflation (the Indian plants were constructed quite a while ago?)... But yes, the price is still a bit too high...

Between 2002 and 2008, for example, cost estimates for new nuclear plant construction rose from between $2 billion and $4 billion per unit to $9 billion per unit, according to a 2009 UCS report, while experience with new construction in Europe has seen costs continue to soar.

So the PER UNIT costs have doubled and tripled in some cases in the last 10 years from (2-4bil to 9bil). That's not to say, this couldn't be done a bit cheaper...but no one is stealing billions here despite what some might want to insinuate

single Nuke plant cost 900 million. .11.38 billion too much profit

Is there a thread on this topic? Where we can find everything related to Nuclear plants of Bangladesh?

I'm new so can't link....but this is from Synapse Energy. You can easily search for the detailed and comprehensive report on google. It's not the only one.

Bangladesh is a 'developing' country and we know what happens here when doing deals...but no one is paying $12bil for a $2bil project

Companies that are planning new nuclear units are currently indicating that the total costs (including escalation and financing costs) will be in the range of $5,500/kW to $8,100/kW or between $6 billion and $9 billion for each 1,100 MW plant. These new cost estimates are far higher than the industry had previously predicted. For example, as recently as the years 2000-2002, the industry and Department of Energy were talking about overnight costs of $1,200/kW to $1,500/kW for new nuclear units.1 This range of estimated overnight costs suggested total plant costs of between $2 and $4 billion per new nuclear unit.

So, going by the parameters given here - the costs should be between 12-18bil. This falls within the lower 'limits' of that.

Pure and simple, Awami League and so call projonmo looting scheme in the name of Bangladesh independence.

Next few reactors probably will cost less. Congratulation to our Eastern neighbor.

We already had Nuclear industry. More than 50% components were sourced from Indian industries. While for Bangladesh its starting from a scratch. BD engineers must also be trained with. So its a long process.
