Russia clears $11.38 billion for nuclear power plant in Bangladesh

It says 12.65 billion takka!!
What else u need to pay after 11.37 Billion loan if total cots in 12.65 Takka? In fact, if it is 12.65 takka why take loan that is about 4 time more than what will be required?
As being repeatedly said to no avail, there is some stupid mistake here.

I'm new and hence can't link. the Taka was a typo and it never should have entered the conversation - suppose it says something about the standard of online news portals in Bangladesh lol

This is from Russia Today

The Russian government has approved a deal to loan up to $11.38 billion to build the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh.

Boost in foreign orders for Russian nuclear power plants

The project is expected to cost $12.65 billion with the rest of the funding coming from Bangladesh.

The loan will be used to pay for the construction of the plant from 2017 to 2024. Bangladesh will repay the money over 20 years in equal semi-annual installments starting from March 15, 2027.

The Rooppur nuclear power plant will be located on the east bank of the Ganges River 160 kilometers from Dhaka, the country’s capital.

It will have two reactors with 1,200 MW capacity each. The first reactor is planned to start in 2022, the second will be open a year later. The lifespan of the reactors is 60 years with an option to extend it by 20 years.

The agreement was signed on December 25 last year by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and Russia's Rosatom.

"Russia will finance up to 90 percent of the total cost as credit with an interest rate of Libor plus 1.75 percent,"Kamrul Islam Bhyian, spokesman for the Bangladesh government told Reuters at the time.

Rosatom will reportedly maintain the plant for the first year of its commercial operation before handing it over to the Bangladesh authorities, and will pay the fuel costs for the first year of operation.

See, then this is what i have been crying about, there is the mistake!
That brings down the discrepancy in costs to around 250% from 400-500%

I'll bring it down further -

2 x 1200 MW is being priced at ~$12bil

As, someone else pointed out Russia is loaning $25bil to the Egyptians....

4 x 1200 MW is being priced at $25bil+ ($25bil is 85% of the costs - Egyptians must come up with the rest)

Expensive or not - this is the rate the Russians seem to be charging everyone and they've lined up $190bil in orders

Russia will provide Egypt with $25 billion in credit to begin building the country's first nuclear power plant, according to reports in the Russian media. The project is expected to help meet the country’s increasing energy demand.
The loan comes as part of the agreement reached by the two countries earlier this year. It will cover 85 percent of the costs and Egypt will have to provide the remaining 15 percent.
The plant which will be built in Dabaa (about 130 kilometers south of Cairo), and will be one of the largest joint projects between Russia and Egypt. It will comprise four 1200 MW nuclear power generators.

Again - Egyptian example might not be good enough for some. So, here is a project the Russians are doing in Finland. I think, we'd all agree, Scandinavian nations are anything but corrupt.

Excerpt is from the Financial Times
But Fennovoima, the company behind the project worth up to €7bn, is bullish. The 1,200 megawatt power plant — known as Hanhikivi 1 and due to be completed by 2024 — could provide Finland with about 10 per cent of its electricity, boost the country’s economic growth, and be a boon for a group of local companies as well as Russia’s Rosatom.

7Bn for 1 x 1200 MW plant

Well i wont go with the Russian Egyptian deal as that too is very high in my opinion. You can take a look at the rate Indians did business or even Pakistan, there are other options as well and normally is is around 2.2-2.5 Billions for a 1000-1200 MW plant. At best, the total project cost for Bangladesh should have been around 6 Billions dollars.

No, you are completely wrong on this point. BNP wanted back the Caretaker govt, under whose neutral supervision election could be conducted. Your Hasina Begum is afraid of getting down from her chair. To your eyes she is a queen, but, how long? An impartial election must be held sooner or later.

From horse's mouth of Khaleda, only mad people and children can be neutral. So why does she expect a caretaker gov where installing people arent that tough. Specially after massive election rigging Khaleda's party did in 2001 election taking advantage of Care taker gov and created drama during 96, also pushed country towards verge of collapse 06-08, fake voter list to installing her loyal people in CTG. The main problems are the third parties who may take advantage during care taker gov which AL fears. Anyway the boat is missed for KZ she can try again during next general election. Though I dont want to see illiterate people like her becomes the PM again. Disgusting.

@Arsalan And the Finnish deal? I've posted in here multiple times - the costs have risen exponentially in the last 5-6 years.

Or how about this -

And the cost of the proposed new Finnish reactor is well below the £18bn (€24bn) estimate for Hinkley Point, even if the UK plant is bigger, at 3,200MW.

3.200 MW for £18bn in the UK.

I get the technology will be far better and labor costs are different in Europe...but once again, the costs align with what the going rate is these days.

.
What is the target production of power in the new plant and has the deal been already signed? A delaying will cause the expenses to go up. Below is the model of Rooppur power plant.

Second phase of Kudankulam plant involves 2 more reactors of 1000 MW each....Yeah deal has been signed in 2014 and ground breaking ceremony was held in feb 2016 and construction should have started by now.

Instead BD looked at cost of producing per KW electricity and the safety and lifespan of the plant. They got it cheaper and safer and they signed the deal. Russia offered not only the plant but also TOT including Uranium Enrichment and Building of Reactor. Whether Bangladesh want to avail those is a different thing all together but the package includes everything.

Oh so the deal include TOT for Uranium Enrichment and manufacturing reactors as well? The cost covers all that?

India already have a lot of expertise in this field which minimized a lot of cost. In our deal Russians will operate the plant for the first 5 years and gradually transfer it to the BD engineers. Russia also going to reprocess the waste material and spent fuel will be disposed in Russia.

Thats what I saw in the MOU that was signed. Not sure about the final draft.

I fully understand that.

okk now 2001 was rigged?? Just let it go man, you sound more dumber than illiterate Khaleda Zia.

Who is it run by? Omi Rahman pial or some partisans like you?

2001 is considered free and fair by the world community. It is an irony when BAL fanboys cry about free election.

People are forgetting that this will be almost the total cost to generate 2.4GW of power for 50 years!

The cost per kw/h is very competitive and BD need not pay anything for 10 years.
