Rights activists suggest taking Tipaimukh issue to UN int’l court

Indians seem to be the most ignorant people in the world without a proper knowledge of their surroundings. Why the rainfall matters when it cannot be used because the land becomes over-flooded? We need water during lean period. But, India takes away this water. India uses this withdrawn water to develop its own agriculture, and export quite a part of the production to BD.

You can always build check dams during rainfall to catch the water and use it during the lean period.

We know this attitude, it is there in every democratic country because political parties want support of the masses and they have to show that they can solve this matter better than rival political party, sometimes even talking impossible. When Obama supported India's UNSC seat, we saw same attitude in Pakistan.

We have constructed Tehri Dam in Uttarakhand of 2400MW capacity and UP & Bihar never turned into desert. So, Tipaimukh is being projected more as a hype than actual issues. Actual issue is how much water Bangladeshi want from this river for domestic consumption.

1) AL never tries to please bdeshies. The fact that they are concerned about this matter, shows that something bad is going on

2) Uttarkhand and UP are near the foot of the himalayas, thus they can build as many dams as they like as there is an abundent flow of water from the himalayas. Bihar has a smaller population than bd, furthermore they have water from rivers of nepal

Can't Bangladesh make reservoirs to store excess water, Bangladesh already gets a lot of rainfall and lots of flooding every year due to rain, can't they just divert that water and try to store it for lean years. The Tipaimukh dam can help control the flooding during season when there is excess rain and if Bangladesh makes check dams it can store that excess water.

We cant do that. We do not have enough land. Furthermore bd is a plain, If we build dams, the water is just gonna flood the plain.

No, we do not need to build any dams to counter the shortfall of water created by Indian dams. India just needs to stop building new dams and should demolish old ones across the border. India is following a policy of 'Poor thy neighbour.'

India needs Hydel power.

We are not rich enough to run rental power stations on imported oil. Either get on board, and India can give Bangladesh monthly data about water level and stuff or get lost. It is our river we do what we want with it. There is no law in the world that can dictate us to not make a dam.

Bangladeshis first tell the Chinese to stop building Dam on Brahmaputra, but who cares as long as it's not your favourite bogeyman India.

Tipaimukh is being built by an arrogant India and not China. Why to go to China and talk about Brahmaputra when the urgent issue is Tipai and the probable desertification of BD.

As told you Indians don't use river water even in lean period. Good rainfall means the ground water never depletes, scarcity of ground water do happens in North-western India even they have less population density because they don't have sufficient rain but it never deplete in eastern UP, Bihar, West Bengal and it goes some metre down but plenty still comes even through they have more population than North-Western India.

The thing is Bangladesh is not telling how much water they need from Barak River. I am Sure Bangladesh must be wasting 50-60% water of Barak River into Bay of Bengal.

You obviously did not read about the groundwater arsenic poisoning i mentioned.

AL is more concerned because they fear that BNP will steal the show and take the all credit. We Indians know these types of politics in a democratic country.

Anyway, UP/Bihar has highest population density and there are no mountains in both states, they are mostly plains and little southern part as dry plateaus. Like Ganga you also have lots and lots of rivers. In my native state, nobody uses river water for domestic consumption because good rainfall every year ensures good level of under ground water. We use borewell for irrigation, handpump or well for domestic consumption. Even in Patna city, Ganga water is not used, instead most of the house or water supply uses water from borewell.

ok Can you give me which areas are affected by arsenic poisoning, is whole country affected by that. Anyway, even Ganga water is unfit for consumption as it is highly polluted.

I think, you have little misunderstood the groundwater arsenic poisoning issue. When a person drinks this water throughout his/her life he/she may be affected by this poison. But, using this water to irrigate farmland poses no such harm.

Nevertheless, pumping up underground water to irrigate farmland is more expensive comparing to the surface water irrigation. Indians are stealing our rightful water and then asking us to dig well for water. This is ridiculous.

AL does not ever voice out against india.

I just told you we dont use groundwater as it is mostly poisoned, furthermore, removal of it can cause our country to sink

Only the northwestern and south eastern regions are spared. We also have other river other than ganga, but you are blocking them
