How Does Arsenic in Water Affect My Health?

I think, you have little misunderstood the groundwater arsenic poisoning issue. When a person drinks this water throughout his/her life he/she may be affected by this poison. But, using this water to irrigate farmland poses no such harm.

Nevertheless, pumping up underground water to irrigate farmland is more expensive comparing to the surface water irrigation. Indians are stealing our rightful water and then asking us to dig well for water. This is ridiculous.

Well it can cause harm in the long run. Quite a few ppl mentioned that arsenic laden irrigation water can affect health

Here is one of them

It seems you know nothing about irrigation. My farms are some 1 km to Ganga Rivers and my district has two rivers, we still use borewell because it is cheaper for us do so instead of using local ponds or rivers, we have a community borewell in our locality.

What your rightful water, wasting 50-60% water of Indian rivers in Bay of Bengal. The rivers passes through our area, our country need electricity and control flood and we also have share in this resources.

Well you see we already have irrigation canals to bring us water from the river. So yeah, we do not need labour or resource to bring in these waters(ps these canals were built a looong time ago)

We have to share the river since we both have rights to it. However we are worried that you guys are getting an unfair share

Geography Department, Cambridge » The Cambridge Arsenic Project

I got affected area maps from this Cambridge university site, really the problem is grim. But unfortunately your environmentalist are talking about earth-quakes and desertification instead of real of Arsenic poisoning. Earthquake claim is bullshit because nothing happened to Mangla Dam, Baglihar Dam and Tarbela dam during 7.6 Richter Kashmir Earthquake. Last month Rangit Dam never flooded Bangadesh when Sikkim Earthquake happened.

No leader, environmentalist in your country talking about Arsenic poisoning aspect which makes us skeptical of your real intentions.

You cant bring surface water individually to your farm unless it located at the bank of the river and will always be expensive. But govt irrigation projects provides farmer with much cheaper rate than the underground water.

Show, the canal taken out of river, they are generally broad one so that whole village can be fed. This type of canal you are showing is used for any type of irrigation viz pond, tubewell etc.

The only permanent water sharing treaty between india and bangladesh was signed by the AL government in 1996. BN was totally against this treaty. Why didn't BNP pull out of the treaty in 2001 when the came to power?

If the treaty is unacceptable renege and walk away. If not, live with the terms of the treaty.

Can any one tell me why khaleda zia didn't tear up this "bad"treaty with "evil" indians?
