REVEALED: How an Indian missile lay unguarded at South Korean port

Nah, I don't buy it for a second. No way the DRDO send a LIVE missile or launcher to the show. Nothing all that wrong with letting a wooden mock-up sit around in a port for a month.

. .
only Air India allows 2 free checked baggage for international travel. Foreign only allow 1 checked baggage.

.
I thought they use mockups for missile display until unless a host country want to see it in action.

Do you even find the news-story in post#1 believable?
Like those AGNI missiles which drive past down Rajpath on 26th January's RD Parade are armed with Nuclear Warheads!
And the Arjun MBTs in the same parade have LAHAT missiles loaded!
Or the Su-30 MKI "peeling off" in the fly-past finale are all carrying AAMs and Bombs!
HELLS BELLS!!! Even the marching columns do not have ammo in the magazines of their INSAS rifles !!!!
The only guys armed there are the guys who need to be armed........ you know who.

Now dont't tell me that you believe in Ghosts, Angels and Mermaids? :azn:
Which imbecile wrote that story above?

Around 10 months ago, India had showcased its newly developed Pragati tactical surface-to-surface missile at the International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition ADEX-2013 in South Korea.

But in a major security lapse, the missile didn't make its journey back home and lay unguarded, vulnerable and dangerously exposed for an entire month at a South Korean port.

The missile, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has a range of 60-170 km.

India Today has learnt that the Modi government has sounded the code red and decided to investigate the entire matter. The government wants to revisit a never before security scare for India's missile programme.

Pragati is a highly potent and accurate short-range, battlefield tactical missile system capable of neutralising identified ground targets and providing an effective counter-force weapon system.

It has all weather day and night operational launch capability. It is a counter to Pakistan's NASR tactical nuclear missile and crucial in maintaining India's strategic edge over an unpredictable neighbour.

There is a series of violations in the journey of Pragati missile to South Korea.

The first violation is that the Pragati missile sent to South Korea for the exhibition wasn't a dummy missile but an actual prototype that was to be used for a live firing.

Second, the logistical handling of the missile in South Korea was outsourced to a local agent of Chinese-origin.

Third, the prototype missile missed its ship back to India, stranding it unguarded and vulnerable at the Incheon port for an entire month. Finally, it lumbered back to India as unprotected commercial cargo without the safeguards it needed as sensitive military hardware.

The Pragati missile has quick reaction from command to launch in ripple firing mode of less than five seconds from same launcher. It is capable of carrying various types of conventional warhead of approximately 200 Kg.

The missile system has capability of deployment in stand-alone mode or centralised mode. With its effective and intelligent end trajectory maneuvreing, Pragati defeats detection by any weapon locating radar.

How can IndiaToday be so naive to publish such a funny story. This is just a skeleton and not an actual missile. For missiles and stored ammo, there are clear rules in place that no participant companies can onload their products with live ammo. Moreover, as a general practice and confidentiality, a mockup is used during such expos except for guns. Not even granades are live. So just chill.

Probably a noob question, but here goes:Is it possible they weren't just mockups, but genuine missiles who had no fuel and explosive warhead? As in, they had genuine seekers and propulsion systems and controls inside?

This is exactly what I hace been trying to convey to you guys for yrs. You can have access to all the new weapons in the world....it wont mean shit if you don't have the right state of mind when it comes ot security matters.

Logistical handling of the missile in South Korea to a local agent of Chinese origin? Are you f-ing kidding me? China uses every trick in the book and for this missile to be stuck there over a month?

It took the Modi to bring this to light. Once again, exposes Congress of the corrupt incompetent pos they are? Yet, these MFers want the minority seat? GTFO!

Incredible, anyone that boasts about India's capabilities should be smacked repeatedly over the f-ing head. I have seen more inept militaries handle their security better than ours. YOu guys are sometimes so blinded to see the truth and stark realities? how the f-k can you correct it, if you can;'t accept it?

Why are you always on overdrive mate? Calm the fcuk down! Don't base all your opinions on one article, especially if it's from an Indian source. Like how you know about the (in)efficiency of our Armed Forces, we too know about the legendary (in)efficiency of our Media.

LOLLL. Maybe that Missile could have been targeted at the South Korean President's House at Seoul!!!
Much ado about nothing.......... the Missile had neither a Warhead nor any Propellant. Forget about DRDO; but any Commercial Shipping Line will not accept a Missile for shipment with a live warhead or propellant, that will cancel the insurance cover for the ship carrying the device. Even GoI, MoD cargo like the P-20 Styx Missiles carried from SU to India had to be de-armed before transit, and they were not even destined only to be exhibited some-where!!!

Additionally the GoI had to assume additional "Insurance Risk Cover" as a Sovereign Guarantee so that the Shipment could take place. Ditto for the case(s) when Uranium Reactor Fuel was shipped from USA to India in the 'old days' where everybody had to know what and in which condition the Cargo was being shipped. Even the Govt. of Egypt had to be notified since the cargo would be transiting Egypt (via Suez Canal). I am familiar with those instances, it is nothing like sending "a parcel of halwa-puri" to some-one some-where. Even in that case, 'conditions apply' as some folks here may be aware of.
Sorry to break your heart (and dreams); Aeronut....... :D

Great an INdian poster trying to downsize the security concerns raised. You overlook the use of Chinese origin logisitics handler of the missile. You overlook the issue of the missile being unguarded for a month. If what you is true an accurate about warhead and propellant not being installed (which I Doubt), it doesn't stop someone from getting a close look at the inner working of the engine and inner workings of the missile.

The fact that Modi is investigating the matter....is a red flag...

Yea but our media with its inefficiancy has thrown more light on corruption and ineffificencies than the military or the gov't has ever acknowleged.

Probably a noob question, but here goes:Is it possible they weren't just mockups, but genuine missiles who had no fuel and explosive warhead? As in, they had genuine seekers and propulsion systems and controls inside?

Nothing noob about it...I pointed out the same issue some posters are overlooking in a major way? The emphasis and focus on propellant and warhead is BS......

Too many lame mistakes being committed over and over again by Indians. IM fed and tired of it. Change your state of mind...wake up and smell the jasmine.....the world is not peaceful and sane you clueless f-ks
