Project ideas, anyone?

although.. if you are thinking of something that may land you a job quicker..
Do an energy audit of a large industry.. preferably multinational.
That puts a nice piece of skill on your resume.. and can get you in as an energy auditor for respectable firm..and believe me.. these posts pay good, even to a fresh grad.

@Mech
This idea by Santro is superb. What I suggest that you somehow get urself a process flow diagram of some industry & apply 'Pinch Analysis' . This is a fairly simple method & if you know some C++ & MATLAB; your project will run smoothly. I assure you this project is quiet manageable from undergraduates point of view

in my opinion, if you're not interested, you shouldn't go for it. As for me, i couldn't imagine myself studying anything but this. Ever since the eighth grade i wanted to go into mechanical engineering.

i am not being able to decide between civil and mech. . i like both of them equally but since there is more scope for civil in assam dad told me to take civil. actually i am planning to study management after my engg. from london school of business and start my own construction firm but i am interested in defence related projects too so am very confused now :-C :-C :-C

Hi,

Something related to automotive like Santro mentioned----collision avoidance system----like something is coming too close to the car---it applies brakes automatically----.

Active cruise control----it keeps the distance with the car in front of you once set----.

Blind spot -----when another car is in your car's blind spot----you can design a detection system.

Will cost money; in designing even a pilot scale model:undecided:

It will mean a lot of money...and a huge waste if the whole thing fizzles out in the end.

Nano technology does seem to be the future. And more specifically meta materials. aside from their obvious uses to hide objects from electromagnetic radiation. they can also be used to greatly increase the life of batteries, antennae range, efficiency of solar cells and optic lenses, ECT.

a feasibility report will do? or it has to be an invention?

how about a wind storage dam feasibility report?
many wind turbine pumping water uphill into a dam......the wind turbine rotating a waterpump instead of an electric generator....then thexwatercreleased into a hydel turbine to generate electeicity? that way the air power can be stored as potential energy....should be cheap as not too many individual generators are being mounted on seperate wind turbines...all turbines are connected to a simple water pump..storing water uphill...and one big hydel generator converting it to electricity.
water can be recirculated in dry season...

also such dams wont need a river...can be built on the coast if the terrain is suitsble...turbines pumping seawater uphill into the dam abdcthen releasing back into the sea via hydel generator.

well I am a civil Eng too, its an ever green field amd especially considering the growth in Indian economy and the shear sizes of projects u ppl are considering , in my opinion u should go for civil and do ms in structure!!!!!!!!

thanx bro i really needed that advice. i will surely think of it.

common yar u got to be kidding han!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And really the work carried out by Indians in this field is mind boggling , they have done exceptional research in almost every field and their books on transportation and survey are considered as bibles in respective field. Even now I m reading an Indian author book"civil engineering objectives by J.K. Gupta" for PIAS test , that is tomorrow morning

Hey mech.I too will be entering my final year[from august].My project is on alternative ways cooling of li-ion batteries.Lemme know the areas that interest u the most.I may be able to help u then.

Mech check this video you'll have idea of such a project.
