Project ideas, anyone?

.
a feasibility report will do? or it has to be an invention?

how about a wind storage dam feasibility report?
many wind turbine pumping water uphill into a dam......the wind turbine rotating a waterpump instead of an electric generator....then thexwatercreleased into a hydel turbine to generate electeicity? that way the air power can be stored as potential energy....should be cheap as not too many individual generators are being mounted on seperate wind turbines...all turbines are connected to a simple water pump..storing water uphill...and one big hydel generator converting it to electricity.
water can be recirculated in dry season...

also such dams wont need a river...can be built on the coast if the terrain is suitsble...turbines pumping seawater uphill into the dam abdcthen releasing back into the sea via hydel generator.

I dont think a feasibility report will cut it. Simply because, the work involved may be considered too little. However, i dont see why a working model cannot be created. Thank you for the suggestion.

Mech check this video you'll have idea of such a project.

OBJECT DETECTION FROM MOVING VEHICLE

Definitely worth looking into sir. But it will take me a lot of time and effort to acquire the necessary skill set to create a mature program. If you have anymore information regarding this or any other idea you might want to share. Please, feel free.

Hey,

I just started my final year in mechanical engg. I am hoping to a project related to defence, aviation or automobiles. Nothing fancy really. So if you educated guys have some suggestions, I'd love to hear 'em.
In aviation, one of the biggest headaches for mechanical engineering is mass to motivate against aerodynamic forces. Pneudraulics is a vital component of this.

Eaton unveils world's first commercial 5000-psi hydraulic pump for Airbus A380, world's largest passenger aircraft
JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI ... Eaton Corporation (NYSE: ETN) and Airbus today officially unveiled the world's first 5000-psi commercial aircraft hydraulic pump specifically designed for the world's largest passenger aircraft -- the Airbus A380 -- at a special event here at Eaton's local manufacturing facility.
The transition from 3000 to 5000 psi is no means inevitable but it is attractive for designers, civilian and military, everywhere. Eaton supplies the C-17 transport with a quad redundant 4000 psi system. Standard fighter class aircraft uses 3000 psi. Same for many military helos.

CH47 Chinook
The CH47’s 3000psi hydraulic systemt incorporates three transmission driven pumps, power transfer units, main engine starters, rescue hoist drive motor, cargo winch drive motor, APU starter/pump and hydraulic accumulator and brake master cylinder assembly.
Lighter composites that can withstand the rigors of flight coupled with higher hydraulic pressure is important for the demand of greater responsive flight control system. UAV's maneuvers that can produce lethal strength g-forces are on the way.

The relationship between flight control elements' mass versus how much pneudraulics required is a good project. You will require the assistance of an aerodynamicist because he is the one that will give you the dimensions of these flight control surfaces. What he said cannot be compromised by you. If he say the stabilator must be shaped this way with this much real estate in order to provide stable flight, you are stuck with it. You will work with the pneudraulic engineer on how to design the system.

Your work DIRECTLY affects the development of an esoteric discipline: flight control laws.

For example...

Airbus Flight Control Laws

Laser Guided Bombs - Smart Weapons
All LGB weapons have a CCG, a warhead (bomb body with fuze), and an airfoil group. The computer section transmits directional command signals to the appropriate pair(s) of canards. The guidance canards are attached to each quadrant of the control unit to change the flightpath of the weapon. The canard deflections are always full scale (referred to as "bang, bang" guidance).
Bang-bang guidance is a set of flight control laws. Imagine trying to steer your car by executing steering turns ONLY from limit to limit, no where else in between. Air-air missiles uses complex guidance laws called 'hybrids' to chase a target...

IEEE Xplore - Advanced missile guidance with hybrid system models
ABSTRACT

In this paper, two multiple model guidance laws are proposed: one is called the mixture model guidance, the other is called the cooperative multiple model guidance. Both approaches are suboptimal guidance laws for intercept problems with hybrid system models, and can cooperate with multiple model filtering algorithms, such as the interacting multiple model filter
In the past, missiles have been known to literally break themselves up when executing a turn because the designers miscalculated the structural stresses, in other words, the missile's flight control laws were too demanding of the mechanics. Missiles do not have pneudraulics but their electric motors must be equally robust and responsive to motivate those fins.

Kollmorgen began working with HR Textron engineering in 1993 on a brushless motor assembly for the Tail Actuator Subsystem. The highly integrated tail kit was expressly designed to enhance the affordability of the JDAM.
Your work regarding mechanical limitations of flight control systems will enable control laws designers to engineer missiles that will have DECREASING failure rates due to violent target maneuvers. In the JDAM's case, instead of violent target maneuvers because buildings do not move, it is the delivery aircraft that will execute those violent maneuvers to avoid ground response. The JDAM will need highly responsive flight control laws coupled with highly responsive flight control elements in order for the bomb to find its ground target and orient itself.

Good luck in any direction you chose.

It will mean a lot of money...and a huge waste if the whole thing fizzles out in the end.

Hi,

This is the biggest " IN THING " in the automotive industry-----this is the future of the automotive industry----as the public gets safety conscious---alomst every vehicle in the future coming ten years will have these items in them----.

Remember when you cash your check ---- leave some money for me----. Thank you.

So, i was wondering.....Would making an ultralight aircraft be considered a worthy project? Now, that sounds like fun.....except...no one among us will be able to fly the darn thing.
