What's new

Power shortfall surges beyond 6,000 MW

If u have 0.1% idea of all the projects in progress, u would not have said that. Yes ending loadshedding is a dream, but if this govt and next govt continue the progress, it is possible. Dont bcm narrowminded by involving politics in national issues. If NS run and complete projects, i will appraise him, and if next govt do, i will again do same. Idont care whichever idiot is in power!
Probleum is who ever in power decides the fate of electricity generation and for last 4 decades they are using it a tool for election campaign

Remember slogans of mian sahab agar 6 mahena ma loafshedding khatam na ki tu mera nam badal dena

So tell me what name suits on him

Only stupid bellieve on these useless corrupt leaders

He is right. I told u loadshedding can be finished in just 6 hours. BUT are u willing to pay $$$? This is the way our reserves touched 21B bcz we are saving $$$ and for long term we are building sustainable energy sources. This the best way for removing load shedding and bringing cheap and clean energy while saving money.
If IK reach an agreement with NS, they can easily build kalabagh dam which is easiest and most effecient energy source...
But alas!! he too dont want to damage his vote bank in kpk and sindh! How abt this?

It concedes merely 3,614MW deficit even during peak hours.

According to its figures, electricity generation in the country currently stands at 15,886megawatts against the demand of 19,500 megawatts. As per its details, the thermal sector generated some 9,900MW, hydle 4,850MW and wind 175MW.

Where is 6000 MW mention in the Article???
It's 3614 MW
Demand will keep rising

You guys really need better administrators, be it civilian or military. Found this on twitter yesterday.

There was never load shedding during those times... ; it was rare and usually happened for 1 hour a week.

natural gas power
Where does the natural gas come from? The second largest gas reserves are in Iran next door. They have even been built gas pipe to the border but you know American pressure has put that project into deep freeze. The other source is Turkmenistan which is where US would prefer the gas being sourced from but that takes the route through Afghanistan. Gas pipes, Taliban and bombs don't mix too well. So that is also in deep freeze.

The domestic gas supply struggles to service demand as it is already. No no major gas fields have been discovered and old ones will slowly start running out. Thee is no high quality coal but lots of poor quality coal with high water content and thus is expensive to mine, process and fire. That said some Chinese company has decided to have a try and let us see if they can make some profit out of it without charging ridiculous rates.

All in all not good position to be in. The only major resource left is hydro power in the mountains. That requires lot of money and political willpower. The last time we had that was in 1960s when most of the dams that produce hydro power were built. Political willpower was provided by Ayub Khan and the money was provided by USA. Result Tarbela, Warsak, Mangla dams went up.

Today there is lack of political willpower and US is not as keen on helping out as it was during Ayub Khan/Lyndon B Johnson era. You might ask what about Saudia Arabia and rest of the oily Arabs. Well that is just for show and for creating radicals.

This never made it to Pakistan. Gas pipe from Iran.

Dont know when wud the promise of eliminating load shedding in 6 months be fulfilled?
the prime minister in swat rally said that there will be less load shedding in 2018 so there is no eliminating. that slogan during election 2013 was just to make the nation fool again.

@Muhammad Omar

You're discounting two major factors here. I agree that power generation is essential to closing the energy deficit, but equal amount of resources need to be dedicated to creating an infrastructure that can handle the additional power and the elimination of circular debt. I attended a conference a year ago, and the author made a very rationale argument that as of now we don't have the infrastructure to handle additional power. Our power stations and networking grid is old and decaying fast. Second, line losses and circular debt is crippling our power sector. Its basic math, if the consumers don't pay for the power they consume, someone will have to pay for it. As of now, we lack the proper mechanism to get people and organizations to pay their electricity bills.

The rules should be very simple, you want electricity, than pay for it moron.

But Government Also working On New Transmission Lines under CPEC and not under it. Plus They are also working on new Grid Stations. I agree our System is very old and Cannot bear more then 15000 MW Even Today Pakistan Can produce 21000 MW but due to our System we are still Standing at 15000

.
umm u guys are talking about the power generation but i have been hearing the infrastructure is not capable enough to sustain more load even if u have surplus power anything is done regarding that
Good point.

But you're forgetting the most important variable, collection of dues.

Power projects are very capital intensive hence if your economy dont support, it will be difficult for the govmt or the private players to mobilize the resources.. You cant live the life of developed country without actually developing your nation to that stage...Just an example..applicable to all of us!
