Pope Francis Speaks Out on Charlie Hebdo: ‘One Cannot Make Fun of Faith’

No ones saying that you can't criticize a faith, just don't insult it. If you have nothing better to say, just keep your mouth shut.
Whenever it gets hot under the collar, that criticism towards religion or God, will be renamed as INSULT. Religions have done it throughout history and will continue to do so.

Also, no one has to obey, that's just either your bias or propaganda, you can choose whatever life style you want to, no one's stopping you or wanting to take "FULL CONTROL" over you.:tsk:
Lot of countries do so via their constitution i.e. full LEGAL backing (e.g. Blasphemy, apostasy etc) of the state/government. Thank GOD :p: all forward looking societies are out of this medieval mindset in 21st century.

Their portrayal of the prophet and basically any of their portrayals of the political/religious situations of the time are basically their way of showing disagreement.

Just as you are free to condemn and debate, so are they.

Extension:
Religious people really talk a lot of bad stuff about ahtiests/non believers. "immoral", "lost", "animal like" are just a few. Its their right to believe in their religion, its my right to believe in what I think is right
Bro, these people were portraying a man they don't even know about, who was born and died more than a 1000 years from now. I would be okay if they have any disagreements with what he said but uprightly making a single poster of him, in which he is showed an exact opposite of what he actually was in reality is not even a "disagreement" or even an insult. It's pure hatred against that guy.

Don't forget that the Nazis too used to make propaganda poster against the Jews and how everyone condemned them in that time period and in this one too. So, the question is, why waive the flag of "Freedom Of Speech" when there is not "speech" at all except for that of hate. Do you, of all people, support this too? This is my question to you.

Hi,

As many time as I can say---Allah gives in strange ways and gives more to those who disgrace his name.

Rushdie was a nobody till be insulted the Prophet Mohammad---Charlie H was a nobody till he insulted the Prophet---same with the Egyptian guy in Miami who made the movie or the self proclaimed priest who is working at a fast food restaurant---they all became somebody after the fact.
Rushdie's first novel, Grimus (1975), a part-science fiction tale, was generally ignored by the public and literary critics. His next novel, Midnight's Children (1981), catapulted him to literary notability. This work won the 1981 Booker Prize.

FYI - Satanic verses came out in 1988

But, I agree with you that they became more famous/infamous in certain sections of the public after they were targeted for their works.

So, calling Gandhi any bad word won't be an "insult"?? What world do you live in?? There is no talk about "religion" going on. This whole case is on the defaming of a single person so loved by many people, who brought in religion? Are you viewing the same thread as ours?

First of all, what do you mean by "lots of countries"??? If two or three countries do what you saying, how does that turn into a "majority"?? The rest of your post is just ranting so I will ignore it.

lets keep the nazis out of this for the debate - it will derail the debate

I applaud your maturity to talk about the points that you think are bad.

what is your issue if they hate the guy? (I am not sure if they hate him - as far as I am concerned, I mock at many religious beliefs not because of hatred) You revere the prophet - you want to , you need to - for your religious purposes. Why should they follow the same reverence as you?

I respect Gandhi for what he did. You are free to disrespect him - you will offend the other people and they will disagree with you. and you can call it a day because of whatever difference of opinion you have.

Or, you can have a respectful debate as to why you have such different views and try and understand - and hence build bridges.

But if you force "you have to respect gandhi because I do" or "you cannot say <choice words> to gandhi because we respect him" then that is forcing someone else to adhere to your view.

Will you, as a muslim, refrain from calling idol worship as blasphemy? It is insulting to many people in the world. Is it not? But rightfully, I cannot ask you to believe someone else's rules.

But then, at some point, we all have to have rules so we dont over run each other. right?
Thats where the rule of the land comes in. And thats where you try to not get religion into it, because that will be unfair to people of other religions. And then all people accept to following these "common rules" (also known as common civil code).

In public, and against each other, we are required to follow the common civil rule. The speaker in the video says - if you cannot follow this civil rule, please go to a place where your rules are more in line with the civil rules.

So, calling Gandhi any bad word won't be an "insult"??
In this case, It'll be an insult to some people, most rational people will laugh at the people who threw the insult for their sense of logic.

Prophet founded a religion? and his followers, follow that religion? Hence, religion as a discussion here matters?

In light of the above feel free to revise what you wrote earlier.

2ndly, " lot of" NOT EQUAL TO majority.

############ feel free to ignore #############
Following are the copies of some of your posts to me earlier.
What world do you live in??
Are you viewing the same thread as ours?

Ok, and below is another of your post.
The rest of your post is just ranting so I will ignore it.

I don't care about what you stand by or not, it matters not to me if you go into Heaven or Hell, what I want is the answer to my question, which you obviously ignored in your ignorant state of mind.

Where was the question in your pointless rant?

Why make fun of faith? Why not stick to constructive criticism?
This is what i don't understand. Constructive criticism should be allowed but freedom to make fun of and openly hurl abuses is something else all together. Can the same logic of freedom of speech be applied to race, family, relationships and people ? Should i have the freedom to be downright hateful and bigoted towards a particular race in the name of freedom of speech?

racism is bad , but attacking religions is good... wierd thought process but that's how the world works these days.
why Racism is bad.....................?
I guess it is against the ''laws'' of freedom of expressions not to make fun of race too.............
and u didn't mentioned the remaining factor of making fun of some one family? like family of any politician, sports man, etc etc?

One should make naughty pics by using your mom's pictures..and distribute it over the net....I bet you would be very proud...

"It's the free speech" you would say.

Which would be Illegal unless his mother consents to it and not covered by Freedom of speech.

Perfectly logical thought process. Your race is something you can't control. Your born that way. Your religion or faith is your choice. Laughing at your choices is perfectly fair game. Think about it this way. Laughing at stature, color or looks is mean spirited. Laughing at your poor wardrobe choices, on the other hand, is perfectly legitimate.

But what do you get out of laughing, and mocking at some one's faith ? How does the society benefit ? How does the person you are laughing at benefit other than making him defensive and making you indifferent to his personal life ? This just seems a rather stupid excuse to laugh at make fun of someone. It has really nothing to do with freedom of thought. It has everything to do with bullying.

I was actually talking about the hypocrisy of the whole freedom of speech thing.

Sorry I don't agree with you. Every religion is out there to be mocked and ridiculed.

Why do you think so ? Why should religion be mocked and ridiculed ? How do you and the person being mocked and ridiculed benefit from it ? Its kinds humors me when people ask why religions are intolerant.

I am very clear and correct in my statement: "ALL major organized religions try to limit independent thought."
And I stand by it.

Ok, does that mean you should insult and mock somebodies personal believes for the sake of it ?

.

Well, we have to laugh at something. To be perfectly honest, religion just offers so much material. I mean virgin births, flying horses, gods with multiple heads, you can't blame us for laughing, can you? Quit believing in ridiculous things and we'll quit laughing at your beliefs.

My believes ? Do you even know what i believe ? You can't be intolerant and indifferent to somebodies believes and expect tolerance in return and not to mention later whine about it.

I am pretty sure you don't have them. In the worst case, I will take you to court. :nana:

Because faith is funny. Yes you have the freedom to be downright hateful or bigoted to anyone or any group.
Folks can take you to court though. That is their right as well. This is civilized discourse.
