The spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office has strongly rejected a story published in local English daily published today about purported deliberations in a meeting on security issues.

The spokesman has termed the contents of the story not only speculative but misleading and factually incorrect.

. .
Propaganda being done by the ruling party on the behest of the enemy.
one political party missing a very important meeting & now this news of confrontation... something is not right and very very fishy...

.
This denial will further fuel readership of that article. Could have easily avoided commenting on one silly article based on hearsay. But then, maybe they wanted more people to read the article..

The original story and the denial both do not mean much. It is usual and normal to have such disagreements and heated discussions in important policy meetings. What is the big deal even if there was such discussion? What is important is the end result. What policies and any changes are adopted is what matters in how to pursue national interests. Different people can have differing ideas about how to best pursue them.

Is disagreement even the issue here? Is this what the article is implying? Given the history of civil-military relations in Pakistan, is this not a legitimate concern? When there is a discussion of civil-military discussions, talks of coups always follow. Some even calling for one.

But there has been no talk of a coup following this reported disagreement. Ignore the khaki fanbois. The military leadership is much too wise to openly conduct a coup at present. They can work behind the scenes very effectively, as always.

PR No.65 Islamabad: October 6, 2016

The spokesman of the PM Office has strongly rejected the story published in the Daily Dawn of 6th October, 2016 regarding purported deliberations in a meeting on the security issues. The spokesman has termed contents of the story not only speculative but misleading and factually incorrect. It is an amalgamation of fiction and fabrication. The fact that the report itself states that none of the attributed statements were confirmed by the individuals mentioned in the story clearly makes it an example of irresponsible reporting.

Dispelling the impression created by the newspaper, the spokesman said that the intelligence agencies particularly ISI are working in line with the state policy in the best interest of the nation both at the federal and provincial levels to act against terrorists of all hue and colour without any discrimination

Indeed the Army’s and ISI’s role and contributions towards implementation of NAP have been proactive and unwavering.

It is imperative that those demanding the right to information at par with the international best practices also act in a manner which is compatible with international reporting standards.

Says an Indian who differentiates between good and bad Indians based on a medival caste system.

What u-turn? The government has clarified its position. The story is false. Deal with it.
