After reading PTI's tweets, I think this was to get IK onboard with what establishment is doing and planning on many issues. IK has the power base to disrupt things so best get him to work alongside establishment instead of against on policy matters. With the political fallout imminent where PMLN and PPP will be maligning army, at least with IK in agreement on policy matters there won't be an all parties revolt against PA without major disruptions on policy matters.

IK will be tested if he's told anything in confidence that he shouldn't leak. Doubt establishment will risk another PM who is a national security risk!!! Nawaz and Zardari are only hungry for their self interests, not of the nation's, and they are confirmed security risk.

Also this looks like a confirmation by Army that IK is a serious contender to win next GE. And it may also be a sign also that judgement is coming against PMLN (& PPP).

And it could also be a reply to all the army bashing PMLN is doing in inner circle. More of a 'do whatever you can, we don't give a damn' ... basically you know what.

It is a well calculated move. Loud and clear message to both Nawaz and Zardari.





IK did the right thing then, by refusing. It was not the constitutional role of the army to investigate election rigging. At least the SC gave a judgement on the electoral reforms required.

What has the Army managed to do so far on Model Town other than forcing an FIR? That case is all in a limbo.

One thing that may have been discussed could the General Raheel Sharif’s appointment as head of the Saudi let coalition forces. PTI was against that and General Bajwa might have explained him the reasons for this move to make him understand the importance of this appointment. Things like that. I am sure they were not there planning menu for the post Panama celebration party.

But what makes it important...is its timing....now tht panama decision is about to come, within weeks, and the fact tht PML N has been accusing PTI of backdoor deal with establishment, esp during dharna...why did COAS choose to meet IK, at this time? Army knows tht all sorts of conspiracy theories will make rounds now. Infact in 2014, it was PM who asked Gen Raheel Sharif to mediate..but then backed out, and PM said tht army did it on its own....which ISPR had to later clarify....
Army knows..tht PML N will cry foul now...even if panama wasnt discussed at all.. But its given PML N a golden opportunity to play victim card and gain sympathy, if panama decision comes against them, and they will try to become political martyrs...humaray khilaf establishment ne sazosh ki.. Umpire ne ungli uthayi hai.. SC judges might be more under pressure now, not to be seen as party to some deal with establishment...although i dont think it would/should matter much
I am really surprised at the timing of this meeting.. If they wanted to convince Imran Khan on Gen Raheel Sharif issue, they should have taken some other route.. Should have conveyed the message through some one else.. On KPK related issues, Afghan refugees, and IDPS, there was no urgency to meet IK, at this time.. if there was an imp matter related to tht, Corp Comm Peshawar could have met CM KPK Parvez Khattak, or even COAS could have met CM KPK.. they meet already in Apex committees... so while these issues would have been discussed in this meeting..these should not have been a reason of this meeting, at this critical time, which will have many political effects

Now Zardari/PPP will definitely try to meet COAS too, and Gen Bajwa will not be in a position to refuse since he met IK too.... And if he meets Zardari, then everyone will remember eenton se eent wali speech, and even army officers wont like it... If he doesnt meet Zardari..then same thing ke establishment sazish karrahi hai..

I think, we can expect Gen Bajwa meeting Bilawal, in few days time..though...if not Zardari... because PPP will definitely try their best now to meet COAS..and Gen Bajwa wont be able to refuse now... and then talks of NRO will become stronger

Also, as I said, whatever decision in panama case, it will be interpreted differntly now, and it has given golden opportunity to PML N to play victim, although panama might not have been discussed at all... Hence i am soo surprised...at this meeting.. Army knew tht what could be its repurcussions, and still did it?

And most importantly, if by any chance, panama decision is lenient on Nawaz Sharif.. COAS tu gaye... Everyone will say..it was an attempt by COAS to manage Imran khan, post panama scenario and it was an NRO attempt by COAS, in favor of Nawaz Sharif..and COAS was behind, the lenient decision, in favor of Nawaz Sharif.....

Why did he take such a big risk, where its lose lose for army in every scenario?

Establishment taking Imran Khan into confidence on different policy issues, is a good thing..but its timing will have many many implications..in the politcal scenario which even Army would also be aware of....... So why this step/ and such a big risk by Army? @Verve

Rauf Klasra thinks this meeting of IK and COAS was about FATA reforms and merger of KPK with Fata.. Army and IK have divergent views on this matter...so this was the main focus..
Rauf Klasra is credible.. he might be right.. but there was no urgency in this matter, tht they could not delay this meeting for 2 weeks, tht is after panama verdict comes... It was an wise decision

I know Imran Khan wants to say tht Army supports democracy..not Nawaz Sharif... but it also means..he is implying tht they both did talk abt politics/democracy too? I don't know if this was a wise statement from Imran Khan, after this meeting

Chill!! It was not something that was a first. The meets happen!! Just because it happened "now" do not mean there was something significant. There might be but THIS is not reason enough to think so.

I will urge you and everyone else to just let things play out.

I dont know...but this meeting certainly looks strange/unusual at this time, to me..

Imran khan said tht Army Chief supports democracy... In other words he is telling tht politics/democracy was discussed between them..

Like i said yesterday, the panama judgement delay is intentional and political, SC is trying to give safe exit to Nawaz on medical ground and once he leaves the country on medical grounds or resign from abroad the verdict will come immediately, dekhna yeh hai ke PM nawaz ko yeh theory samajh ati hai ke nahin wesay bhi he is of no use this is his last term as PM, verdict was ready yeh SC ka larger bench hai koi graphic designer ya fotostate walay ko shop nahi hai ke decision laptop pe likha ja raha hai or har judge apna apna likh raha hai, its all rubbish and the info given by justice khosa on farewell dinner of justice ameer hani was just fake thats all

I dont know.. I dont think tht its a case of intentional delay by the judges... I dont think..Justice Khosa is tht type of person, to try and give safe exit to someone...

Chief wanted to meet IK.. If he wants, he may invite others too.

Most important thing is, he emphasized that no matter what (referring to Panama indirectly), Army will support the Jamhooriat. One of the key pillars of democracy is the system of courts and their decisions will be implemented. This message has been conveyed to all the parties, including SC and PMLN. IK was remaining, so he was also informed about it.

This is to let everyone know, including PTI and PMLN, that violent protests will not be tolerated after verdict.

Other matters were probably discussed in much more detail, such as Pakistan's involvement in Islamic alliance, FATA, war on terror and possibly drone strikes.

To be very honest, establishment thinks that PTI will be winning the next elections (or will win enough seats to form government in Federal government with its allies), so IKs stance is very important because he will be the face of Pakistan.

PTIs stance on many issues is extremely weird and gets critical reception. Imagine a government which is not able to manage relations with friends and foes.
