PAKISTAN
RAWALPINDI: A special anti-terrorism court on Saturday summoned Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director Wajid Zia for non-compliance of red warrants of former president Pervez Musharraf in Benazir Bhutto murder case.

There are three additional-director generals, including Zia, working at the FIA headquarters in Islamabad. In its 540-page verdict the court requires the officer leading the team to possess “firsthand experience of investigation of white collar crime and related matters.” It is unclear if any of the three men meet the requirement.

Besides Zia, the other additional director general is Captain (r) Ahmad Latif. Both him and Zia joined the police service together in 1988. Latif is currently in charge of the agency’s anti-corruption wing, while Zia overlooks its immigration department.

By some accounts, Latif could land the coveted job of probing the prime minister owing to his background. He is a retired military officer who hails from Sindh. But these two facts could also go against him.

If the government has its way, it would not want a JIT where the uniformed men are more in number and are led by a man not from the prime minister’s home province.

Latif, say those close to him, has been vocal about not wanting the job. The retired officer is not keeping well due to his diabetes and wants to steer clear of anything too pressing.

As for Zia, he is originally from the Murree Tehsil in Rawalpindi. Coincidentally, he is also a blue-eyed boy of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

Zia is known to be a religious man and an upright officer. Earlier, he served in the Ministry of Religious Affairs. “He is honest but weak,” one of his colleagues, who asked not to be named, tells Geo.TV. “He can’t say no to his superiors.”

Like Latif, he, too has no experience investigating white-color crimes in Pakistan. If Zia lands the stint, he would require the help of experts from within the agency.

It is also important to mention Dr. Shafiq-ur-Rehman, the third additional director general and a grade 19 officer. He is the least likely to make the cut

I asked..with regards to his reputation... In this regd, the above quoted lines say it all... Honest, but weak... Cant say no to his superiors

This says all

[OS] PAKISTAN/SAUDI ARABIA - Wikileaks: ISI urged SA not to fund
Nawaz Sharif election campaign

ISI urged SA not to fund Nawaz Sharif: WikiLeaks
Updated 2 days ago (Page Last modified today, June 2. Even so, haven't
seen this on os)

KARACHI: ISI asked Saudi Arabia not to fund Nawaz Sharif for his election
campaign, a secret cable of 2008 revealed.

According to WikiLeaks, National Security Adviser Tariq Aziz told Asif
Zardari that after being elected as a prime minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi
could challenge his authority, as Zardari was considering Qureshi as a PPP
candidate for prime minister.

Aziz told US Ambassador Anne Patterson on February 15 that Saudi Arabia
has provided heavy funds to Nawz Sharif for his election campaign in order
to defeat Pakistan Peoples' Party.

In the same meeting, he also told Patterson that ISI Director Nadeem Taj
had met with the Saudi Ambassador to request Saudi Arabia to stop funding
Nawaz Sharif. He also told the Saudi Ambassador that by doing so, the pact
between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will be violated in case Sharif returns
to Pakistan.

On February 15, NSA Tariq Aziz told Ambassador that in the past four day
he has met twice with Zardari, who asked him for "advice" on who should be
prime minister if the PPP is asked to form a government. DG ISI Taj and
Aziz urged Zardari not to pursue the premiership for himself, as it would
split the party and reduce PPP's national influence. Zardari raised the
idea of becoming Prime Minister with Aziz on February 14. Aziz told
Ambassador that this might have been possible in years past, but under the
new constitution, which stipulates that the PM must be a member of
parliament, Zardari would not qualify.

Aziz said he encouraged Zardari to support Amin Faheem for PM. Zardari
complained that Faheem is a poor administrator who lacks the skills needed
to run the government. Aziz admitted to Ambassador that this is true; when
Faheem was Minister of Communications he spent much of his time at his
home in Karachi. Aziz told Zardari that Faheem's shortcomings could be
mitigated by appointing a strong staff, but Zardari remained convinced
Faheem was too weak to be PM.

According to Patterson's comments in the secret cable, Aziz was clearly
depressed and pessimistic about the possibility that Musharraf's party
could hold on to power in the next government; we see Zardari's continuing
contacts with the government as a sign that he will deal with Musharraf
after the election.

Big twist about to happen - PMLN starting a new episode of making lawyers sacrificial lamb. Lets see if SCP falls for it - CJP will surely fall for it and indications are to "try" to split the case in two phases, composition of JIT bench will tell the pitch Sharifs have requested to be prepared and if it worked.

Sharifs have upped the ante and they have decided to go all out and fight it themselves hence absence of a lot of Khawajas and Co. (or GG Brigade as Aitzaz calls it).

SA is not only funding, its local (Pakistani) financiers as well; and one of them (we all know who he is) has even claimed to have people with guns and tanks in his pocket and now his latest claim is people with pen (qalum).

Too much going on - and I hope PA plays its neutral but strong role of keeping discipline - at present a lot of chaos.

@Baghial is saying tht Advocate is retiring in May 2018...? Now I am confused.. I think I read tht he is returing in one two months time...or maybe I misread the year... Dont know...

However if he is really retiring in 2018.. Then its a good news for us..... Because it will mean ..tht there are many chances ..tht this whole same bench will hear the case at the end..as Justice Wajihuddin and Zafar Ali Shah say.. They say tht new bench will be ..for monitoring the JIT only..and after JIT completes its findings..it will come before the same panama bench..

I dont know..tht when will we be clear abt this? When will SC clarify abt new bench or same bench..hearing in the end? Will we have to wait for 60 days...when JIT completes its work..after tht only..we will come to know..tht whether same bench will hear the case or not? Or when SC finalises the JIT members..will SC ..at tht time...give further guidelines...on what will be the future course of action of SC..in this case?

One more thing, I want to know.. If anyone can clarify this...

Theres a story in Express tribune today..tht PML N is thinking for review.. Their POV is tht, judges have given strong observations against sharif family..(i think they maybe referring to J Khosa) ..so when SC has given such observations..how will JIT work independently? Their opinion will be biased due to SC observations..so PML N is thinking to review

I know for a fact..tht PML N knows.tht review ka koi faida nahi hoga.. Review will 100% be dismissed.. PML N knows this...as its scope is very limited... However...if they still go for review,,,then it will be only for ONE REASON..and tht is dealting tactics.. They probably want to delay the process of JIT..so tht JIT doesnt start its work..aur kafi time review main hi nahi nikal jaye..which eventually wil be dismissed..

So My question is... If PML N goes for review..kiya SC ka jo faisla hai..jab tak review par decision nahi hojaata..tab tak SC ka faisla....ruk jaayega ga..implement honay se?? Kiya JIT us waqt tak apna kaam start nahi karsakay gi..jab tak review petition ka faisla nahi ho jaata?? Ya aisa bhi hosakta hai ke JIT bhi saath saath kaam karay aur review petition bhi suni jaaye? But if their main plea..is tht ke JIT wont be independent...after observations of SC judges...tab tu mera khyal hai ke jab tak review ka decision nahi aajata...JIT apna kaam start nahi karay gi? What do u all think abt it???? @PakSword @Guvera @Arsalan @Baghial @QatariPrince

Agar aisa hua ke jab tak review petition ka decision nahi hojata...tab tak JIT apna kaam start nahi karay gi,,,which is more likely..tu yeh sirf PML N ki delaying tactics hongi...to delay this as much as possible...and stretch this till 2018 elections? Because they know fully well...ke review ka koi faida nahi hoga

Yes, as of now the PML-N is going for review petition and that means the delay of 90 more days :) and as long as review petition is being heard in SC the JIT and Panama verdit wont be implemented, i dont blame PML-N for this zalalat its the 3 deaf and blind judges who has given this space for PML-N to cash on by giving a shameful verdict, Justice Khosa and Justice Gulzar being most senior of them all exactly knows that how the weak verdict or the commission and JIT thing would be treated by PM and they went for disqualification and left no room for PM to use delaying tactics, this review petition (delaying tactic) is also a slap on those faces who consider JIT is going to deliver and decision is a pretty good one, feel sorry for them.

PMLN camp is split in two clear divides and if things persist in a certain way - I can guarantee based on info/discussions that there could be a forward block/splinter group headed by we all know whom :)

One group is saying no to filing review as it will be acceptance of part conviction and PMLN will feel politically defeated by PTI and with other issues lingering including load shedding and possible agitation will serve as severe blow to PMLN as a whole.

Second group is primarily family of Sharifs (and those who are not favourites of leader of the first group) who are saying some thing to this effect; that is like "save our skin first, we can do damage control to our politics later" hence the above spin to construct a masoomana case that even though we submitted proofs but lawyers failed us. These are the fabricated proofs that I had mentioned earlier in which Asad Umer's brother (Muneer Kamal) is kingpin.

However, both of the options are not easy for neither PMLN nor for Sharifs.

Knowing their politics for last 20 plus years im 75% sure that they i ll go for review petition.

.
It could be either way; Billions of $ are at stake.

However consider this:

1. Sharifs file review and within few days the review petition gets discharged and original verdict stands. What is your guess in this happens?

And.....

2. JIT submits nothing substantial to bench; as they are in hot-water now; and they cannot submit new evidence for which although Geo is doing spin doctoring.

If above happens then party split has to happen; as now there are no immediate backups of NS, but at least 6 people who will consider themselves as rightful candidate for PM ship.

.
The reason both of you have been ticked off should not be hard to understand.

While @Farah Sohail keeps clinging on to the 2 'acceptable' judges while @PakSword you keep propagating anti PA policy. We receive guests from the whole world and this forum is Pakistan based, try and show some respect to the institutions.

I request both of you to discuss and argue constructively rather holding on to 'Messianic' cliches.

Act rather than react and try being positive for a change. If you keep looking for negatives in life you cannot comprehend the positives lying at your feet.

Nawaz Sharif is the most positive thing ever happened to Pakistan, cuz he and his government have generated so much electricity that we can even sell some of it to India, but still there is 12 to 16 hours load shedding in Pakistan, but i am still positive yayyy...... Nachooooo :bunny:

The two achay officers jo thay woh tou nikal gaey.. abb reh gaya dhakosla..

I don't know much about Wajid Zia though.. but the other two were great..

Lekin agar main hota tou kabhi medical leave pe nahi jata.. Yes, they are upright, and strict, but the one who runs away in the critical situation is always called weak..

2. JIT submits nothing substantial to bench; as they are in hot-water now; and they cannot submit new evidence for which although Geo is doing spin doctoring.

I am only interested to know the answer to this question.. I have asked it before as well, but no one could answer.

If JIT doesn't bring anything substantial, (which is 99% probable), then will the bench consider it as lack of evidence against Shareefs?

Remember, one judge has already said that as per constitution, you can't force a person to declare the sources of income even if they are disproportionate to your living style. The other judge principally agrees with him.. The third judge is in limbo..

I think Shareefs will remain unharmed in this case..

I think....no matter how much they want to file review petition... Eventually they will decide against review petition....because it will give political victory to PTI, and defeat PML N's own narrative....esp when they distributed sweets and made victory signs the first day...

Is se tu Imran khan ki woh baat sahi sabit hojayegi....ke Inhon ne faisla parhay baghair celebrate kiya..yaa ye ke jhoota sabit honay ki khushi manaa rahay thay.. Now they have read...they know they have been declard liars..

Politically Imran Khan ke liye is se acha nahi hosakta...even if it delays the process.. And i am sure, it wont take much time to dismiss the review petition

Lekin agar review petition main chalay bhi jaatay hain..it will be very interesting to see confrontation between Justice Khosa, Justice Gulzar, and sharif family lawyers :lol::lol:

It will be REALLY INTERSTING, you know... Sachi bhtt mazaa aayega :lol::lol: Sharif family lawyers will say ke aap ne biased observations si hain, JIT independently kaam nahi karsakay gi.. Phir agar woh pooch lein..ke aap ko GODFATHER nahi kehna chahye tha.. Imagine..what will Justice Khosa say then?:lol: Ke unhon ne kiun Godfather ka reference diya???:lol: Aur phir us, par media talk shows :lol:

Sirf in dono ki confrontation dekhnay main bht mazaa aayega  I will follow proceedings of review petition, with even more interest than panama case:lol:

But i still think..ke PML N will not go for review petition

You were talking abt FIA, when u said ke us officer ne kabhi bribe nahi liya?

Waisy FIA officers ki reputation ke baaray main pata lagaana.. Justice Khosa ke liye ziada mushkil nahi hoga..considering his brother is former DG FIA.. Even if Tariq Khosa doesnt know abt Wajid Zia, Tariq Khosa will still have contacts in FIA...jin ke through woh pata karaa saktay hain

Hwever..theres one thing...jo hum pehle bhi keh rahay thay... Will Justice Khosa take so much personal and keen interest in JIT????? What ..if he remains indifferent to it..and leaves it to his other colleagues..who proposed the JIT, to finalise the members???

Kal tak JIT ke members ke name final karke SC ko bhejnay hain right, kia koi aik bhi name final huwa ? like i said Sharif's are famous for Khudhkush Karwai or 75% chances yehi hain ke they ill go into review petition.

Logically...if JIT fails to bring any thing substantial..or Sharifs fail to present anything in their defense....it should go against the sharifs...tht they couldnt provide money trail..despite being given another chance...unless one is an advocate for the shareefs, this is the only logical conclusion, tht I said

Godfather kiun kaha... Justice Khosa iska kiya jawaab dein ge?:lol::lol:

Power shortage is a long term goal for Pakistan as there are no short term solutions for that. Ground work has been laid but it is rife with corruption which needs to be tackled.
