Pakistani-Americans: Stand Up and Be Counted in Census 2010

Stop being ignorant anybody who puts up the word Indian is doing it just for the business of attracting more customers not out of fear. Putting "Indian" also means special care is taken for Hindu vegetarians in cooking vegetarian dishes. Seriously get an education before making tall claims like that.

I live in SF Bay Area, and I know Pakistani restaurants and businesses take pride in their heritage. Their patrons include both Pakistanis and Indians, no different than Indian businesses that appeal to Pakistani customers as well.

There are parades, concerts and other events that are organized under the Pakistani banner on Pakistan national day by a number of Pakistani community organizations in the Bay Area.

Just recently, I attended a number of such events on Pakistan Day in March.

Generally, Indians and Pakistanis live in harmony here, often attending each others' festivities on Eid and Diwali, as well as concerts and shows by touring Indian and Pakistani artists.

Occasionally, there are joint events under ICC (Indian Community Center) and PACC (Pak-American Cultural Center) banners.

Now business and fear of saying "Pakistani Restaurant" are two different things. As I pointed out, most Indian = vegetarian. You need to highlight that for your Hindu veg only customers. Your premise was that no one wants to point out their Pakistani heritage out of some sort of fear. It's typical Indian supremacist bigotry nothing else.

.
And I must add that all Indian restaurants advertise serving halal food and Indian stores selling Pakistani merchadise.

It amazes me how people act differently based on their need. Pakistanis are master in it. Now only world knowing about it.

All indians are not vegetarians.

My point was if you identify as pakistani then inviting more trouble.

End of discussion.

Although I have personally not experienced it where I live, there is strong prejudice and xenophobia in some parts of the United States.

This hatred is not limited to Pakistanis alone. Indians and other nationals have also been attacked, and in some instances killed, in parts of the United States.

Let's not forget the past! There is a long history of intolerance against minorities, including blacks, Mexicans, Japanese, Communists, Muslims, and others who have suffered at various times in America. But it's changing with many civil rights, and human rights groups fighting it.

An interesting example is Amardeep Singh, the daughter of Indian PM Manmohan Singh, who is a top lawyer at ACLU in Southern California. She has been fighting for Muslims who have been wrongly victimized after 911.

One of the reasons why I think Pakistani-Americans need to stand up and be counted is to fight for justice for all Americans, including the rights of Pakistani and Muslim Americans. The best way to do that is to participate in the political process and community activism.

You need take out from you mind. Pakistanis may be muslims but not otherway around not all muslims are pakistanis.

In the eyes of those who persecute Muslims in the United States and elsewhere, Pakistanis often equal Muslims.

They do not make the distinction you are making.

And most of the haters here do not know the difference between Indians and Pakistanis, either, or for that matter, Hindu or Muslim, or Sikh.

A few years ago, Canadian novelist Rohinton Mistry, who is of Indian origin, felt so humiliated by frequent searches in the US that he cut his book tour short, and returned to Canada.

I don't understand what you are saying

1. Pakistani are discriminated because they are muslims?

2. Pakistani are discriminated as other indians (hindus, muslims and sikhs) and no diffence

.
Good for you sir, You can't say as pakistani proudly and loudly in USA. That is fact. You can't see any restuarant or store as Pakistani. They just put india name also there. Like "Indian and pakistani restaraunt". Indian establishment don't put pakistan name in their business.

The stupidity of this post.
