What's new

Pakistan’s population up by 46.9 per cent since 1998

never really get the point why people go for 4 now days.

But the urban population is now getting aware, but the rural areas are still a sort of a problem.

2 children should be the preferred number, 3 the max.

times have changed -- in some ways for the better, in the sense that infant mortality rates are down. Mothers in 1950/60s used to have so many kids knowing 2 or 3 would die.

urban areas are becoming aware, ive heard that numbers are decreasing....but of course rural areas still face this problem. Especially in the Punjab.

the problem also is the mindset...some are chauvinistic..like that someone who would give birth to 2 girls, he or she'll not accept anything until they gets a boy.

in the old days and even today, children were viewed almost like investments....raise them feed them, they'll be the future breadwinners.....sometimes ''future'' means when they are 12.

we need to emphasize having less children, but investing MORE in those children. Investing means quality education. So many jahhil people who think its okay to have 7 children and then they cant even provide for all of them.

More increase in rural population more support in future for jahil political parties .. we have same issue in UP, Bihar and some other states ...

some jahils in whole subcontinent only know to give birth to children, they don't feel that there are responsibilities attached to it like giving proper education, better future & other basic facilities. these kind of ppl not only ruin the future of their children but also of their country.

As Abu Zolfiqar told they treat them as bread winner from age 12.. so more you have more money you can earn ..
Even at some places they feel more children in family more powerful you are ... that lead to farm land division and now many ppl hv such a small land that they lost interest in farming .. and that lead them to urban centers ... another side effect

Kama Sutra: Sacred Hindu art of *******. At least our religion doesn't teach us this.
Now don't bring your hatred for Muslims into this thread.

and u were not born out of this? ok right yeah science has advanced test tube babies u know... i totally understand.

An oldie likes me remember ZAB's 'Socialism' of the 70's. We had to study 'Social Studies' as a dedicated course. Then there were these govt. sponsored tv commercials: 'Aik do bacchey, khush hal gharana; aik do bacchey, lakhon khushian' (One or two kids, the household is prosperous. One or two kids, millions of joys). There was a focus on family planning right from the top. All that ended when the mullah/Taliban Zia ul Haq toppled Bhutto in 1977.
A mullah like Zia does not need to have a beard. It's his mentality which is corrosive to a nation and its people.

While I don't think 46% growth happened in a mere 14 years of time frame I think Pakistanis are just plain over reproducing. That needs to be cut down. Impose a China-like solution if we must. Or at least educate them (and remove some religious dogmas in their brain, while at that) and send them off to Russia! They (the Russians) need people.

PS. Not a week goes by when I speak with my relatives in Karachi who tell tales of people in financial misery. Often then have multiple kids. I sometimes hang up in rage.

^^^^^Doesn't PTV broadcast these social massage on Family planning and other things:unsure:

Field Marshall Ayub Khan once said that if we dont solve the issue of population growth, things will get to a point where Pakistanis will begin eating eachother.

symbolically speaking, he wasnt too far off the mark.

it's not too late to raise awareness and enact reforms to control the population growth....every country has a ''carrying capacity'' -- and in our case rising pop. growth with minimal GDP growth to offset it is a recipe for disaster.

all we need to do is enact a 1 or 2 child policy the way the Chinese did.......but then the problem is the religious groups who then cry foul

Sir, this is interesting to see that total number of Pakistan’s middle class stand at around 35mil right now, and Indian middle class is estimated at around 350mil, similar in per capita income on PPP of Poland/ Argentina/ Malaysia type ‘very high HDI’ countries. But if they are still ranked among the poor countries then its only because of their overpopulation, as, at the time of freedom, population of West Pakistan and India was 34mil and 341mil respectively? Just imagine, if we could keep population of India and Pakistan to at least 600mil and 60mil respectively, they would be ranked with the countries like Poland, Argentina, Malaysia, South Africa etc right now? What is meaning of overpopulation if you can’t give them good life? Why does anyone want a kid if he can’t educate him/ her properly to make a valuable contribution in national progress? Just because of over population, government of India and Pakistan doesn’t provide enough support to newly born kids, then aren’t the parents themselves responsible for the bad upbringing of their kids? In place of having 1-2 kids and educating them enough to make them a proud civilian, how having 5-6 kids is justified if half of them may become criminals without proper care and a shame for the society?

Those estimated numbers don't seem right. Here are some other estimates:

World Development Indicators and Global Development Finance - Google Public Data Explorer

pakistan's population - Google Search

Yo, according to CIA fact file, this July will bring Pakistan's population upto 190 Million. Whats the problem? NO WATER, NO ELECTRICITY, MORE DEMAND FOR RESOURCES, MORE POVERTY, SMALL COUNTRY, INFLATION UP BY 13%!!!!

Very sad news. No family planning whatsoever in this country. Just more people being born into poverty, crime etc. We don't have enough resources for 180 million people and we expect to hold more people in the future.

Govt plan to decease it 50% is already in progress.....

Bomb blasts..
Honor killings
Mafia Violence
Political killing
Street crimes

And thats not all... God also send donation as Earthquakes and Floods.....

i am glad our families never talk about birth control because its not islamic... And why should we do brith control when we have so many other ways of decreasing population......

I've been advocating colonizing India, Iran and Afghanistan for years now. You could spread the population out that way.

Some ways to solve this issue:

1.) One child Policy
2.) The government should give condoms to men!
3.) Legalize Gay rights
