Interesting news.
However, it could've been reported a bit more clearly. At one hand, they're saying that Ministry of Interior would receive the 5 new 'Latest' helicopters but on the other, they're talking about using them for counter insurgency operations.
That doesn't sound right at all. Currently, the Ministry of Interior is using the UH-1H helicopters and a few Bell Jet Rangers. Take a look at this picture I took of a 'Ministry of Interior' UH-1H at Qasim base Rawalpindi. The MOI logo is visible on the cargo door.
In my opinion, the new birds would probably be the new Bell-412 helicopters to replace the aging fleet of UH-1H helicopters. Ministry of Interior's fleet of helicopters aren't used for any counter insurgency operations. They might be called in for air-support (with light modifications), surveillance, troop or cargo transport in times of need. But other than that, I don't see why we should speculate that we might get some top of the line Gunship helo like the AH-64 Apache or AH-1F/Z cobra for that matter
Anyway, I'll ask around from my Aviation sources about the reality of this news and get back to you guys soon. Sit tight!
