Providing with new helios doesnt mean that they are going to be gunships they might provide us with chinook's(for transporting troops),US will never offer us Apache AH-64 Gunships,if these are gunships they are goin to be AH-1Z Viper!!!

US to provide five helicopters: Rehman Malik

The United States will soon provide five helicopters to Pakistan to deal with insurgents effectively, Interior Minister Rhman Malik told on Wednesday. He said the helicopters will be for use by the civil law enforcement agencies working under the Interior Ministry. Senior US officials conveyed the decision to the Interior Minister, saying Washington is prepared to help Pakistan in its fight against militants. The Interior Ministry will now have 13 helicopters at its disposal. “We have had very useful meetings with senior US security officials,” Malik stated.

more than likely they will be Bell 412s which can be used for border surveillence! 2 .50 cal MGs can be attached on either side of the doors for armed reconn.

according to my info there is no helo in this quantity, we have about 35 -40 cobras m

more than 20 mil transport helo and so on

so what is this 13 helos all about!!

Its got to be bell 412 as Pakistan is already operating around 24 of them.

it may be cobras or the bell 412 but what is the point in "already operating 13 of them" ???

need to check the different ORBATS but our armed forces operate a lot more various types of helicopters.

off hand i would say the following;

anti-armour Cobra's are 39 as one crashed!
med-lift is about 30 puma's, 30 Mi-17s and still operating the older Mi-8s (the number varies due to maintenance)
light-transport/recon are 24 Bell-412, assorted number of jet-rangers (10-12),UH1H (4 to 8), Fennec (6),
SAR/medevac are Alloutte's, Lamas.

the interior ministry operates mainly Mi-17s (6) and Mi-8s (2-4) and a few older Bells (4, I believe). they also have a few (2-4) fixed-wing border surveillence a/c.

remember not all are available at one time due to maintenance and upgrades are taking place as per schedule.

Dear people living away from Northern areas like u n me give too many suggestions but all of us dont know much about the ground realitites. Tell you that its not that easy....they are batter think tanks and analysts who are planning for operations

Apache AH-64 Gunships to be operated by Ministry of Interior??!!?? I seriously doubt it. These birds are not even offered to the Pakistan Army. Besides the amount of time to be spent on training of pilots, maintenance and logistics will for a new platform would simply be unrealistic for just five birds.

It will be more like the US Army Bell 412 armed with a belly Thermal Imager and side door 0.50 caliber machine guns. Similar to the ones already being operated by the Army and the Ministry of Interior/ Cabinet Division (6th Aviation Squadron)

I think it will be, Huey II helicopters, already being flown by a Interior Ministry squadron at Quetta. Insted of 12.7 mm guns these helos may be terofitted with 7.62 mm M60, MG1A3 types of weapons. Not a chance we getting Appaches. However, if Army is getting any thing then it will be refurb Cobras, as we already got them in 2007.

But these (Cobra) are not 13..........So wts the 13 helos mystery as said by Rehman
